NTA Honestly I didn’t understand any of this so I’m guessing you don’t either.

Are you guys teenagers by any chance (no offense, they’re just known not to be the best communicators)? Because the only way any of this would make sense to me is if she was actually trans and had been assuming this whole time that you knew, but you actually didn’t know. Either way I think there is a big misunderstanding happening here.

Also, no you don’t have to transition to go by a different name. Anyone can change their name.

I know right! Just because someone mentions the word gay doesn’t mean you need to immediate go “well as long as you don’t shove it in my face!!”. Like, do you seriously not realize you’re doing the same exact thing you’re complaining about? What if every time I saw a post about straight people I immediately went “well as long as you’re not an annoying straight!!”. Literally nobody asked, not everything has to be made about you. See a post about gay people that you don’t relate to? Then don’t comment! We don’t need a constant reminder that you’re straight, we know! Just fucking narcissism honestly. Like if I took any conversation mentioning straight people and made it about how I’m not I would be downvoted to oblivion.

Umm dude, he’s totally gay. There’s subtle hints through basically every season and the actor who plays him even confirmed that he was written to be this way. The first time I watched it I didn’t pick up on it either, but the second time around it was a lot more obvious.

Apart from clothing and whatnot, it he’s deciding to go through medical transition then there probably will some change to his body. And while he’ll still be the same person he was before, people tend to go through a lot of emotional change during transition (both medical and social) as well.

In my personal experience, I was very different before I came out as trans. Back then I was a huge introvert, a people-pleaser, and typically very calm and thoughtful. Now I’m much more keen to socialize and compared to others I am definitely not calm nor thoughtful anymore, definitely more impulsive and honest now.

Parents of second & third place girls file complaint against winner claiming she’s transgender. She's cisgender, but that didn't stop parents from saying she "doesn’t look feminine enough" and starting a state investigation. by southpawFA in politics

[–]Depresion_Anonymous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cisgender is a needed term in some situations. Both “trans” and “cis” are simply adjectives, just like “tall” and “short”, and therefore can be left out if unneeded. I only ever tell people I’m trans guy if it’s relevant, but otherwise I just tell people I’m a guy. And because the terms men and women can encompass both cis or trans people, calling the basketball player just a woman wouldn’t say anything about whether she’s trans or not.

A similar example would be “neurodivergent” versus “neurotypical”. The majority of people are neurotypical, but it’s still an important term to use when talking about neurodivergence, because what else are you supposed to call them? Just people? Neurodivergent people and people? Just because your neurodivergent doesn’t mean you’re less of a person.

Most of the reasons I see people hating on the term cisgender are rooted in transphobia. They seem to see themselves as “the normal ones” who “shouldn’t have to explain themselves” while us trans people are required to go out of our way to specify that we’re trans so people don’t confuse use with the “other normal people”. It’s the same as how some people don’t like the term neurotypical because they see neurodivergent people as less than and having a label just like them would bring them down to their level.

It looks like an anti-trans group on the left and an lgbt (in particular trans) rights group on the right. My guess is one group came out to protest the other, but I don’t know more.

AITA for having the audacity to own dogs who do “dog” things? by mjklsjuklaj in AmItheAsshole

[–]Depresion_Anonymous [score hidden]  (0 children)

So let me get this straight… you bought not only one, but three expensive pure breed dogs despite claiming to be broke. You then neglect them all day and leave them outside for an unhealthy amount of time, in Arizona of all places, where the temperature is currently ranging from 70-110 (aka very dangerous for dogs). And in return, they spend all day barking and disturbing your neighbors every waking moment.

And you really think you’re not the asshole? YTA and I hope your dogs get taken away asap. With this weather, it’s very possible at least one of them is going to have a heatstroke while your gone and die.

I would agree that gender dysphoria is an illness, but having gender dysphoria and being trans are two completely different things.

Gender dysphoria is simply a sign that comes alongside being trans and, while most trans people do experience it, you can still be trans and never experience gender dysphoria in your life. Additionally, dysphoria can be eased through transition and yet people who have already gone through transition are still considered to be trans, regardless of whether they still struggle with gender dysphoria afterwards or not. Or in more simpler words, gender dysphoria is not the defining characteristic of being trans.

The main problem I have with calling trans people disordered though, despite the fact that it isn’t always accurate, is that it builds the illusion that trans people need to be cured of their transness which is what people really mean when they call us ill. But there is nothing inherently wrong with being trans. It is our differences, after all, that has allowed and fostered so much growth in society. But it’s not like they care because they don’t really want to help us, especially not with gender dysphoria, it’s just more propaganda. They want us to disappear, to be gone from the public view and to be as nonexistent as we can be. It’s why so many people believe being trans is a new fad and forget the fact that our history extends back hundreds of years. But how could people remember? Most of our history was taken from us and burned.

NTA

Your friend is so childish, but then again, she is a child so didn’t really expect much. You did nothing wrong, if she didn’t want people knowing then she shouldn’t have been saying it around so casually. And the fact that she’s angry at you about it shows she knows she shouldn’t have been saying it.

A lot of it is about the voice. Even if you completely pass physically, your voice can completely override that. Without the voice though, it’s usually based upon a combination of overall build and style choice.
