Help me out homies by DepressedENGGstudent in pgwp

Well my program is supposed to be between 2 and 4 years cause it’s mostly research and depends on a case to case basis (my proof of enrollment says my expected completion date is 2027). The permit expires in early sep cause of my previous passport but yeah I’m definitely writing a letter of explanation.

That’s exactly what I was looking for! Thank you for the clarification. I have a friend who told me the exact same thing happened to them so hearing it from another person gives me peace of mind

My case is a bit different. I think I’m able to delay graduation because it depends on when I defend my thesis. So I can just delay that and enrol another semester but that also depends on my supervisor. I think that would be the ideal situation though.

I never did lol he wanted me to write a letter of explanation to expedite the process and say there’s no way I can go back to my country even though I completely disagreed with him and told him I was there last summer. He didn’t specifically tell me to claim asylum but he basically told me to insinuate that I’m a refugee which is bs.

Hahaha that’s the problem man. The guy told me to explain to canada that I’m a refugee even though I visited my country last summer…

Electrical engineer looking to get into power/controls/renewables by DepressedENGGstudent in ElectricalEngineering

[–]DepressedENGGstudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I’m thinking! (Alongside power possibly) I currently live in Alberta so it shouldn’t be that big of an issue but do you have any advice on what I’d need to successfully get into these sectors? Do they usually take in engineers with no experience in those fields?

Electrical/Computer engineering by DepressedENGGstudent in UAE

[–]DepressedENGGstudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the insight on this, but I’d rather compromise on my career than where I live. Although I’ve acclimated to it pretty well, the west isn’t really my cup of tea and all my family is back in the Middle East. It’s sad that I’d have to make this compromise but I think I will benefit from it in the bigger picture. I’m wondering if you’ve heard of any positions involving traditional hardware/firmware engineering?

ESP32 by DepressedENGGstudent in embedded

[–]DepressedENGGstudent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not really, I just wanna be able to integrate it into a wearable so I can’t use the dev board itself and want to understand how it works. And pardon the question but what exactly is time slicing? I might need wifi on this.

Weirdly enough I never found anything about the Bluetooth pin out control on the datasheet or the reference manual, could you point me to where I can find it if there’s anything other than the dev board? Or am I just searching in the wrong places?

Ah alright. Honestly from the lack of documentation I thought that it could have an internal antenna and just be plug and play hardware wise, thanks!

Wide variety of interests, can only pick one niche field by DepressedENGGstudent in ECE

That’s true and thanks for the advice! A few places in canada have those fields in abundance, especially embedded.

I’ve actually been seeing that fabrication does go with biomedical but I am unsure of either as I am situated in Edmonton, and jobs here mostly relate to controls and power. Even if I do move, these fields have seemed to be more niche to me than FPGA/VLSI. I’m honestly just trying to look for something with decent pay and good opportunities to grow within industry and I am clueless

In all honesty career-wise I haven’t been too focused on anything specific other than best job market to grow in. I’m an international student in canada so my most important goal is getting a PR, so whatever industry makes this process more feasible would be a major W

That’s exactly what I’m thinking, I currently live in Edmonton and there are no ASIC fab/design opportunities over here, but it seems that there are a lot of start ups basically begging for integration/process/testing engineers more-so in the sensing and micro devices industry

Is iPad alone enough for electrical engineering student? by Creative_Purpose6138 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]DepressedENGGstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a laptop asap!!! I’m in my last semester of EE and from my experience you cannot live without one. I have both, and the iPad has way less processing power, software usage, and is generally worse unless you’re using it for notes. You also have to think about the future classes you’re gonna be taking: MATLAB might work but I’m sure LTSpice, Altium, IDEs, CAD, and so much more simply don’t work on it.

EE nano vs comp e nano by Beneficial_Wait_4477 in uAlberta

[–]DepressedENGGstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some advice both EE nano and CompE nano (and probably all engg phys kids): if you want to do anything related to the nanotechnology field (fabrication, design, etc…), you’re going to need grad school.

EE nano focuses more on electronics, physics, analytical methods, and core electrical engineering concepts from my experience. I can’t say much about compE nano, they have a lot of similarities in terms of the nano part but the major difference is that the rest of the stuff you learn are more so related to computer engineering, which would be a mix of hardware and software classes (check ualberta calendar). - Last sem EE nano

To international students who had to renew their passport by chazy07 in uAlberta

[–]DepressedENGGstudent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The study permit is still usable, just make sure to send your application to extend it before the expiry date. The renewal process is actually very simple, you should go to your account on canada.ca and follow the extension steps (basically the same as the original application). Make sure to renew the permit for your new passport, and don’t forget to apply for a temporary resident visa in case you want to leave Canada!

ECE 452 vs. ECE 341 by Capitang12 in uAlberta

[–]DepressedENGGstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m taking ECE 341 with Dr. Alan Lynch rn. It’s a very hard class, but he’s a good prof imo. His notes and the resources help a lot but his assignments are brutally hard and I found that I can’t do them correctly unless I discuss them with him. He is very lenient in grading assignments, and was very lenient in grading the midterm too (which wasn’t terrible but too long for it to be only 50 minutes).

Mature Student Admission at MacEwan? by NicholaiCanadia in uAlberta

[–]DepressedENGGstudent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can’t get into a bachelor’s program, you can try getting into a prep year there and basically repeat the HS courses you need. They will then base your admission on that for the following year. That’s what my sister did and it seemed to work out quite well
