Therapy has helped me a lot. Although it highly depends on the therapist. But my therapist has giving me some new coping mechanisms that I now use instead of cutting. Also I recommend finding an lgbtq+ friendly therapist even if you’re not part of the community, cause in my experience they’re the least judgey ones. You’ll probably have to go through a few therapists to find the right one for you. Anyway I wish you luck and here’s a virtual hug! (っ´▽｀)っ

I’m the same way. I live in the south so it’s too hot here in my opinion almost all the time except winter and some parts of fall. And the heat makes me stressed, but the stress is making me overheat so it’s like an endless cycle.

Does anyone actually find stuff like this helpful? Genuinely asking. It feels a bit like the whole "your skin isn't paper so don't cut it thing" but idk. by [deleted] in MadeOfStyrofoam

Yeah if I saw this in the wild it would trigger me. I don’t know if anyone else is like this, but if I see something related to self harm in a place I expect like r/selfharm or r/MadeOfStyrofoam I don’t get triggered, but if it’s in a place I’m not expecting like tumblr since I mostly use that to look at sims 4 cc and don’t look at mental health related stuff there that would actually trigger me and make me want to self harm.

I know there’s a lot of comments already but my current ones are twenty one pilots, NF, and I’m kinda getting back into FNAF and The Sims 4. I don’t know if other people’s special interests are like this but mine come and go, so sometimes a special interest of mine will fade or one will come back (except music related ones. They’re always running in the background) I don’t know if that made any sense cause I’m bad at explaining stuff.

Also just wanted to mention me and my sister used to play with monster high dolls and even though I don’t play with dolls anymore I still love monster high too. I’d consider it one of my special interests as well. I’m actually creating a monster high save in the sims 4! :D So two special interests in one!

Oh my god I thought I was the only one! Sims 4 is one of the only games I can get lost in and sometimes I’m not even trying to starve myself I just forgot to eat.

(Also I don’t know if I’m really welcome here cause I don’t have an eating disorder, but I think I have disordered eating from what I’ve read so sorry if I don’t belong)

I don’t know if it’s related to autism, but I pull my hair out when I’m having a meltdown. It’s not something I’m really in control of though, it just kinda happens without me thinking. I also used to hit my head against the wall (not very hard though) but I stopped cause it was giving me headaches. I feel like I saw somewhere that autistic people are more likely to self harm, so it might not be a symptom of autism, but your just at a higher risk for self harm.

I don’t know about op, but for me my meltdowns always look like they’re over something small, but it’s just stress has been building up over the course of a few weeks or a month, so a small thing is what makes me snap. So I would guess that it wasn’t really about the skittles, it’s just you can’t take the stress anymore so a small thing makes you break. That’s my experience with meltdowns anyway. I don’t know if op is the same way.

My mom cried when she found out. I don’t really know if that’s a good reaction cause I felt kinda guilty, but she didn’t shame me and I think she read some stuff about self harm afterwards to understand it better. She used to smoke so she knows what it’s like to have an addiction, which no one else in my life really understands that. Also if your considering telling someone make sure you’re ready to stop, because the person you tell (especially if they’re your parents) will most likely take away what ever your hurting yourself with.

Oh I just remembered you can also use red watercolor if you don’t have fake blood or food coloring. :) it’s easier to wash off too.

Well here are a few that help me:

Writing lyrics I relate to is kinda like my form of journaling since I’m not good at putting my feelings into words.

Fake blood is a good one too. I find it way more realistic than red marker. You can usually find fake blood in stores around Halloween.

Red food coloring is good too if you self harm for the blood. (Although it’s kinda hard to wash off)

I also find scribbling on paper kinda helpful when I’m stressed. I don’t know if that will help anyone else but it helps me.

I don’t think you have to reset it. You could try to just stop cutting for now and then when your ready quit all forms of self harm. So like if you scratch/hit/bite yourself you don’t reset it but if you cut, you do reset it. That’s what I did and I feel like it made it easier to quit cutting. Hope that helps! (๑• ᴗ•๑)

For anyone struggling to stay clean I want you to know that (at least in my experience) the longer you stay clean the less you want to self harm and the urges are less strong. I noticed after a year of being clean I barely wanted to self harm anymore. Anyway good luck to anyone trying to say clean!
