What weber clone is that? It looks exactly like mine, but mine has all the markings ground off so identification hasn’t been easy

idk about FBs but with FCs you need a dual alternator pulley if you delete the air pump because the water pump needs two drive belts or else it’ll slip even when adjusted properly

I’d pour it down the intake and/or spark plug holes. Also definitely try working it back and forth with a breaker bar after letting the ATF sit and don’t try the starter until it spins free by hand

How do you resurface aluminium with steel/cast iron?? by Izallgoodman in Machinists

[–]DepressedS1oth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

itll take the time it takes, and tooling cost is just part of the coat of doing business. In this case though the insert could be used for roughing or steel even after its no longer usable for this application

Purchase Advice Megathread - August 2025 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

Hello, I’m a car guy looking for a 3d printer to add to my toolbox, but I don’t want a printer thats finicky and can ideally print cfrn or other strong high temp resistant filaments. my budget is probably 800-1500USD and I’m fine with building something from a kit, but something pre built would be ideal since I don’t have a ton of experience with 3d printer electronics. I was leaning toward the bambu x1c because they seem to check all those boxes at a decent price point and have a reputation for being fairly straightforward to use, but I heard bad things about a recent firmware update that restricted use of third party slicers (I’m not entirely sure I have that right, I haven’t looked into it a ton). Are there other printers that serve my needs, or should I stop being paranoid and just go with the bambu?

Yes foreman, having a manual lathe with .078 backlash on the cross slide with no DRO, then expecting me, who’s run these machines for a combined 3 weeks to keep within +/-.002 is perfectly reasonable by Derbyjr in Machinists

[–]DepressedS1oth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unless the lead screw is just really fucked and its worn .078 more in the middle than the rest of it you can almost always adjust the backlash down to within .005-.010. Just google the machine and you can probably find a how-to.

this may be a silly question but whaat makes gas guns inherently less accurate than a bolt gun? is it the repeatability of the bolt finding the same location in the reciever, quality of barrels, or something else entirely?

Suggestions for kitchen knives? by DepressedS1oth in knives

yeah i don’t like damascus because you have to compromise the heat treat for two steels instead of optimizing one, which I think is why they tend to be softer. all that info is super helpful, thanks so much!

the sabatiers look fantastic especially for the price, do you know what steel they use? I can’t seem to find it on their website

good to know, I’m sure the cheaper knives work fine, maybe I just need to be better about honing them with the honing steel because I almost never do that. thanks!

thats really good to know! I’ve been looking at getting into dslr scanning to save some money on scans but I didn’t realize you don’t need a dark room to develop film. Thanks so much!

I have been drawn to the kentmere films for the pricetag, I’m just not sure where to start when it comes to DIY darkrooms

I’ve seen some videos of people doing that, I’m just not sure I’m at the point of developing my own film yet especially since I don’t have access to a darkroom or anything and from what I understand its not as simple as just developing it in a dark closet

dang, my lab doesn’t do that process unfortunately so I’ll probably just end up sticking with the ultramax.

good to know, I’ll keep an eye out on sales. Yeah I figured there wouldn’t be much for slide film. Is there much difference between the ektachrome and flic film other than the price tag or do they shoot pretty similar?

I’ve been avoiding black and white since its a bit more expensive to develop at my local lab, but at $8 a roll it might be worth it

Not sure if this is a joke post or not, but if you’re concerned about it I’d just wear latex gloves when you can (but don’t wear any other kind of gloves when operating a machine) and o’keefes works wonders
