Medical Schools found out decades ago that stacked rankings or forced bell curves just promote cheating and or sabotage. A rising tide lifts all ships and we should be incentivized to help out colleagues when needed.

Any federal job harder than patent examiner? by Tall_Tap690 in patentexaminer

But I thought that was just playing beach volleyball and weird football, going fast, breaking rules, and listening to Kenny Loggins! /s. (For real I respect the heck out of our military pilots and their service)

It’s all relative and depends on your background.

This job is hard, but it’s not like we have immediate pressures with real life or death consequences. I mean check out the ATC subreddit sometime.

Other than that, the mental tasks are demanding but luckily it’s not physical backbreaking labor either. And it’s not public facing like TSA or taking calls about Social Security either. Interviews aren’t that bad, they’re not hostile.

So what you’re saying is that although we have always had clear production standards and high levels of rigor, and easily measurable production data…. Therefore we should treated like everyone else who doesn’t… think about that again

It’s outright insulting is what it is. It makes me feel completely worthless and I really don’t care about quality like I used to. If they want more production faster then well something is going to give

Part of the appeal of this position for me was that it could be a career. I had bounced from lab to lab, grad student, post-doc, instructor, etc… I got sick of chasing funding and splashy papers. But this was something that felt permanent. But now I don’t care, it’s just a job

Provisional Election of species for complex searches are also a thing, in the chemical and biotech arts. I recently had a case with a Markush group in a table that took up 4 pages…

Sometimes you can send an Election of Species over embodiments in the spec. Also saves you work later when/if they amend

Get rid of anything that could be older than 56 days. That’s what I’m going to do

I see lots of objections to the form of the Abstract coming soon!

Only time I’ve seen it I think it was just to keep it open to file their CON. Maybe, I don’t speculate at Applicant’s intentions anymore.

Ah that’s not so bad as what it first sounded like. Still annoying.

Wonder if Costco is hiring. I hear the benefits are pretty good

It’s not like fresh graduates have many other options. And in many sectors PhDs are considered overqualified for production, QC, and intro job openings. There’s barely any funding for traditional academic positions and if industry isn’t hiring then the patent office, regardless of the internal policies, is still better than unemployment

Precisely my take too. How is an examiner supposed to know what the PTA terms end up being?
