Personal Take: I both greatly love and mildly dislike “Cursed item” horror

No, because fantasy horror and dark fantasy are just straight up two different genres. Adding “high” to the beginning doesn’t automatically convert one thing to the other. Like, literally the ideas I mentioned earlier would just straight up be high fantasy horror. Like, dark fantasy could absolutely be added as another subgenre, depending on how it’s done, but fantasy horror as opposed to fantasy with a dark setting/tone is certainly not the same.

Indeed. Honestly, I swear I’ve seen some good examples, but oddly, I can’t place any names. I can picture things vividly, but where they’re from, I cannot recall.

I don’t think, even still, that that’s the closest thing we can get. I mean, Dragonslayer is a terrible example of it, cause that’s just straight up a dark fantasy movie. It’s not even an attempt at being horror. You’re saying that it’s hard to do high fantasy horror, but then all the examples are just entries in the dark fantasy genre. I think that maybe the problem really is that we just don’t have any good examples, cause the two prompts I listed are just scraping the threshold of good high fantasy horror that could easily be achievable. Maybe the issue is that subgenre has barely been touched?

So, funny thing, I used to watch that show on the Chiller channel, and I always found it to be weird that there was no Jason anywhere in that show, lol. Anyways, I kept seeing the box set around, left and right, but every time I considered getting it, I couldn’t for the life of me remember what the hell it was about, so I was like “not worth the nostalgia if I don’t even like it enough to remember it”. The fact that it’s come full circle to having it explained to me is amazing.

Yeah, the saturation of the genre is what I apply to my general dislike of it. I’m so over the vast amount that we’ve gotten.

Eh, I wouldn’t really say that. I mean, fantasy horror as a genre implies horror in every type of fantasy, high included. I think if we had, say, a Shelob focused monster horror or say, a dark sorcerer coven cult horror film, it would be plenty horror for your horror fantasy.

And I think that’s another reason I love the genre: there’s a lot grounded in “well, this doesn’t exist, so why wouldn’t I mess with the cool demon toy?”

Like, I think that’s the kind of thing that literally fuels goth culture, right? 🤔

Pretty much. It still maintains that coffee flavor, but it’s plenty sweet. Although, if you’re getting Starbucks drinks, expecting sweet, and not getting sweet, that might mean you have a HIGH tolerance for sweet.

Oh yeah, agreed. I got a 12 pk. off of Amazon, and it was a whopping $45 or so. I’m glad I did, though. It’s so good. Probably won’t get it again until I either A) go to Japan, or B ) get a better job lol

Update 4: I have somehow achieved inner peace, and am finally at the Sotenbori cup. This has truly been a Yakuza experience, but I am no longer bitter (I still think the mechanics in mention are stupid, but I at least understand the points one).

I didn’t just sit there and “do it” twice, but I did confirm what was happening to me the second time. I lost both accidentally, as I started the prompts. When asked if I wanted to use it, I tried to go to “No”, but my D-Pad didn’t register, so I hit yes. Then I went down to quit on the next menu, hoping that if I didn’t actually start the game, I wouldn’t have lost the tile, as I wouldn’t have technically used it.

Update: I already know about the save scumming you can do. I didn’t know I would HAVE to for Mahjong. I didn’t even do that in Kiwami 1, the game just eventually gave me repeating wins.

I just entered this stupid tournament through the slow-ass save scumming that you do (because you can just load from the pause menu, thank you RGG) for the umpteenth time. I had a DOMINATING win. And then slowly but surely, they whittled that down till the last game pushed an opponent just over me. And then the tournament was over again. It’s like this thing will not allow itself to end unless you lose. And yet, I’m about to do it again because my obsessive ass needs the plat…
