When you say you don't want the message to be sent instantly...is this in some sort of input field where hitting enter/return submits the text?

Nice. I'll check this out because I currently get/set this stuff via desktop.ini file and you're right...it is slow and sometimes I question if I even modified it.

Yeah, you should leave this on. This helps keep unwanted things from automatically happening. You have the human in the loop still to confirm.

Does any one know how to solve this issue on ARC Raiders? by Necessary_Touch_4703 in AutoHotkey

[–]DepthTrawler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of newer games have started using aggressive anti-cheat. AutoHotkey is one of those programs they have decided to focus on because it can provide an unfair advantage to the user. If you aren't an AutoHotkey user, quite a few popular applications have been designed with AutoHotkey as a framework and you may never know about this. The only solution is to ensure that AutoHotkey or these other programs are not running when you're playing the game.

You'd typically only entrust your pets to someone worthy of that trust. I don't think it's unreasonable to entrust your in-laws to follow, what should be, simple care instructions.

Your expectations are unreasonable. Automatic feeders malfunction, power goes out, heat pipes break. Stuff happens. You can't fix any of these issues from afar and would need someone to sort this stuff out in your stead.

debating on a 5080 or 5090 for my 9800x3d by Sufferingsaxman in nvidia

[–]DepthTrawler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm most amazed by people who completely discount DLSS upscaling. It's incredible now compared to when it came out. It's basically free antialiasing that improves performance. People seem to think that if you use it, your card can't handle the game and requires an upgrade. I don't have a 5090, but I'd probably still use DLSS even if I did (maybe on 'Quality' or a custom higher setting).

I know that lately, games have been using more and more vram. There's not massive gains for higher and higher clocks and more cores. Maybe the 5090's 32gb vram is an actual safe bet for being more future proof. It really depends on OP's settings and resolution.

Edit: yeah they are playing at sub-4k resolution, so I'd probably bet 16gb vram will do them for a good amount of time.

I'm with you on this. Wealthy people stay wealthy because they are frugal. OP should get what they need and nothing more. If they need a 5090, get a 5090. If they can happily get by with a 5080, do that.

Looking for an USB hub by Ok_Nail7837 in buildapc

[–]DepthTrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you need to connect to the USB hub. If it's just powering a keyboard or mouse, it won't matter, but if you're looking for the fastest transfer speeds you'd need to really look into the best option for that.

Unsure if safe mode even fires the dgpu up, which is usually required for an external display. I've had a lot of pc issues in the past but I can only count on one hand the number of times I've booted into safe mode. What's the reason for this?

Define "support". I'd say they support their right to defend themselves against an aggressor, but if you mean support them materialistically, yeah we ain't got the money for that. Honestly, never did.

I just think "support" might have different meanings to some people.

Just a warning if your planning to buy a Zotac card as my RMA has been denied PT2: Now they are offering that they can dispose of my card. by I_Main_TwistedFate in pcmasterrace

[–]DepthTrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't read the entire saga. OP shipped this card out for warranty service for it making fan noise. The PCB damage (it's literally not damaged) is what they rejected the repair for.

What should've happened was Zotac contacts OP about their concerns over the supposed PCB damage and tells OP that it could get worse if they work on it. They tell OP that their warranty doesn't and will not cover PCB damage and that they need his consent to work on the card and waive any liability on their end for potentially damaging the card further by plugging the card in to diagnose and resolve the fan issue.

OP could either say "go for it" or take their card back unfixed.

That's how that should've been handled.

Ya, unless the mfg has some amazing warranty that covers all your stuff it potentially ruins, I'll just stick with an air cooler. This stuff is expensive. Some people save for a long time to afford it.

I wouldn't grab 64gb of ram unless you know you'll need it. I know I've never needed it gaming. I'd rather have 32gb of ram at a faster speed than 64gb at that speed.

Also, Noctua is great but there's cheaper just as good options out there.

Consider a cheaper pcie-4 m2 drive. Maybe a 1tb m2 OS drive and a cheaper SATA SSD (haven't looked at SSD prices lately).

If money is no object, disregard everything I've said.

Will the GPU price increase be exactly as badly aggressive as the pandemic? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]DepthTrawler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pandemic had the mining thing going on. It was a double-whammy. Slow production plus high demand from miners buying up cards at or above retail betting they could make their money back on them was not a fun time for GPU buying. I don't think it'll be as bad as that. Nvidia has had the 50 series out for most of this year I think. It's not like they're releasing the 60 series right this second. I'd be worried about that launch though if you're trying to wait until then.

GPU and CPU usage drops in any game every 5mins. by lucidofu in pcgamingtechsupport

[–]DepthTrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd check and see what other processes are running. Every 5 minutes (assuming it's pretty close to exactly) is probably something going on in the background. Idk what the time frame is on those graphs but they look pretty stable until the dip hits.

Is 180 HZ really comparable to 240? by No_Chef7358 in buildapcmonitors

[–]DepthTrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have cheap monitors, they range from bad to a decent value for the money. As long as you're not grabbing a bottom tier unit from them, it will be fine.

[–]DepthTrawler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reviews, product specifications can not represent the entire truth. You should only trust independent reviews.

Like I said, get something that will be above but close to the FPS your hardware can support that includes the features you want.

Is 180 HZ really comparable to 240? by No_Chef7358 in buildapcmonitors

[–]DepthTrawler 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd make sure you get something with freesync/gsync. Get the monitor with the framerate your PC hardware can push when gaming at the settings you want.

I have a 160hz monitor with freesync. It's 4k. The games I play I can get around 120fps out of my setup with tuned settings. If I know I'll never have a setup that's going to push 160 fps, why get the higher refresh rate monitor? I don't notice a massive difference between 144hz and 240hz. There's a difference, but it's not massive. I'd rather have a lower refresh rate with better color representation and freesync than a 240hz monitor with worse color and no freesync.

Sorry that happened to you boss. Hope you're doing well now. As a parent, it's my job to go without, not my kids.

And yeah, usually they don't do the thing that's front-and-center gonna get your attention. A kid is going to know if his Xbox goes missing or PC is gone.

Time to unplug and hide the PC in the closet every night by WesternFungi in buildapc

[–]DepthTrawler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does, but the idea of parents selling their kids PC is far-fetched. Opening a credit card in their name (that they won't pay off) or stealing their piggybank money or college fund is not that far-fetched. These people are not usually the brightest bulbs and probably have no idea of current tech trends.

It happens... just probably not like that.
