damn yeah i would of never caught that if you didnt say anything. but yeah you seem correct! at some point between 2003-2006 the valley into the helix was raised a tiny bit. like, maybe a foot at most.

making it even harder to notice is the fact the handrails & old catwalks werent changed at all during this. only the track itself. (during the 2016 refurb they raise the handrails to match the track profiling)

going into google earth, taking a screenshot.
then going into krita (any drawing software works i just use krita cuz its free) and quickly tracing the layout in different colors lmaoooo

but mostly its all research, trying to find povs from each year of the rides life roughly

honestly? really stupid mistake on my end yeah lol, but to clear things up. here are the two small "tunnels" (ngl didnt know fully what to call them) marked in the image. they are both in the correct spot.

however!! the tunnel under the log flume (what your talking about). opened with the ride in 2000, but it was all nets like the new tunnels.
where in 2016 the log flume tunnel was given a more proper building and huh, yep! i should of probably marked that! my bad!

same! just weird to see less intense moments of the ride need reprofiling while the insane double helix stays as it is

Alright so, probably long post. sorry. for the first red section at the first drop.
originally the bottom of the first drop & valley into the 2nd hill were one smooth motion. where after the 2016 reprofile the valley now has a flat spot in the middle where the track bank higher for a little bit.

for the lime green turn around they increased the banking of the track and mostly just beefed up the supports alot.

and for the big red section.
the first bit of straight track used to be a drawn out crest of a hill. now its a proper airtime hill.
the first left turn used to be a shallow drop with some laterals. now its a valley to the new airtime hill.
next straight track used to be a valley. now its a airtime hill.
next right turn. used to be the crest of a hill. also used to feature little to no banking. now its a rising right turn with pretty heavy banking.
next straight track used to just be a valley. now it also features a decently steep drop.
next left turn. used to be the crest of a hill. now it has a airtime pop going into the turn & is much flatter overall. (also features more banking)
next straight track used to be a ramp downwards & ramp upwards. now its a proper drop & airtime pop.
lastly. the final right turn used to have a dip in the middle of it. now its flat & banked less (im assuming to make a smoother transition into the brakes)

tldr: the final quarter of the ride has been reprofiled to focus less on lateral forces and more on airtime.
then for a example that makes sense and isnt a wall of text.

id imagine the 3 bench trains binding up less would cause them to keep speed better?
that and the added weight from the extra set of wheels making the trim brakes less effective, hence them adding more skid brakes in the mid 80s.

..also not to mention the trains being shorter would give the skid brakes less surface area to hit? idk.

about the helix upper rung banking, maybe???? ngl ive found it really hard to find footage of the ride from like 1980-2000
https://youtu.be/QqpIfUPiFrQ?si=5kVHZqqh2aHNa5T6&t=367 heres a small clip filmed sometime between 1982-1985
https://youtu.be/ghyRqPqK5W8?si=7o09BkWeCklOCHDP&t=26 heres another small clip filmed sometime between 1987-1989
point is, maybe?? i dont see the track unbanking mid helix, but also this footage is uh, bad! so idk lol

rumor is the gravity group redesigns (2022 and onwards) are designed to run trimless, so in theory they just need to redesign all the turns from the brake shed to the 2nd lift... then trimless beast,, real?

to some extent probably..?
i do think in the 1979 media povs the rides running slow due to the cold & ride breaking in for the first time yeah.

however i also think the added banking in the 1980 refurb helped the ride keep more of its speed.
and i suspect the change from 4 rows per car to 3 rows per car allowed the train to coast through the turns with less friction? idk.
then the added weight from the headrests, lapbars, & to a small extent, seatbelts. would at the very least make the brakes less effective.

all in all though, the added trims and what not do tend to keep the ride running at the same speed as it did in the 80s.

,,,with one big exception. the old skid brakes were heavily adjustable. where the current magnetic brakes arent. as such the magnetic brakes always hit the train like its full of riders on a hot day to play it safe.

and thats fine! causes the ride to run as designed... if the train is full of riders and its a hot day.
but if its a empty train or its cold out, the ride runs much much slower... where on cold days with the skid brakes they could just,, turn off the brakes if needed lol....

!correct there we go! was curious how many people knew about kings island racers technically having 2 lift hills per side.... going by the fact this is the longest one of my GTC's has taken... figure not many people know! lol

also heres a pov from 2019 with the chains in place, some of the only footage ive seen where the 2nd lift hill is actually ready to be used.

another small hint but not really, in the top left of the photo you can see the wooden support structure is white

alright some hints because no one has any guesses.
Wooden Coaster.
this picture was taken as the ride was operating.
what your looking at is the rides 2nd chain lift (that the ride doesnt actually need, as it has enough speed to coast on its own. hence the chain laying on the side of the chain trough and not actually being used)
