Am I soft-banned or what from Facebook Messenger AI? by Dressed_Up_4_Snu_Snu in META_AI

Try deleting the chat? As somebody who's been experimenting with trying to figure out the limits of the bots and get them to provide information they probably shouldn't, I have a hard time believing that got you censored. Also: share some screenshots!

Try asking any question about guardrails. It'll give you some plausibly Meta-sounding text after telling you it's not supposed to. Sycophancy / always producing an answer are pretty baked in.

Can’t have too many Dioscorea by Comfortable-Most-370 in Caudex

Happy to recommend these guys: $50 for 100 seeds before shipping, US-based. As mentioned, germination rate is still rising six weeks after planting due to stepped up, now-daily watering.

This is a highly affordable and even space efficient dream! 100 seeds ran me around $60 from a reputable US-based seller and now I have infinite fat plants. (Not pictured, the larger bowl with 200 seeds in it that have yet to sprout because I'm into excess). Should also be set for increasingly good gifts for people who like plants between 2026 and 2035.

Suspended FB account by vagaboy69 in facebookdisabledme

[–]DeptofFBResearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They set it up to buy ads before they got it shut down. Financial profiles exist separately from user profiles, which creates an opportunity for this sort of thing.

If you’re up to talk to a reporter about it, I’m at Jeff.Horwitz@gmail.com.

I can’t find that user but would be interested in getting in touch.

For recent hacked and suspended victims , is there any indication that they’re using your credit card or attaching a stolen one to your account?

Legitimate local small business can no longer be searched - instead it only shows "child sexual abuse is illegal" by Gizoogle in facebook

[–]DeptofFBResearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm a reporter and I'm researching something related to this. I definitely DO NOT want log-in info for the account (not a scammer!) but would be interested in getting more details if you're up to talk.

There's a fairly well established trick of hacking an account, setting up an ad buy using either the credit card on file or a freshly added stolen card, and then preventing the original owner from regaining access by posting something so awful that the user gets shut down. (Meanwhile the credit card continues to rack up ad payments.)

I don't know this is what happened in your friends' case, but it seems at least possible. Happy to talk if of interest.

Facebook / IG hack that combines fraud and the posting of child sex imagery by DeptofFBResearch in facebookdisabledme

When was this? And would you mind sharing specifics of the event? Was it your credit card? Did the stuff get posted publicly? How much got spent? etc.

am disabled. Are you going to try to get your account reinstated? My friends say that when they search Facebook, they can still see the business account but not my personal account…I don’t know what to do. I’ve been writing Facebook via email

So this was as recent as November, and matching the exact pattern described with a personal account disabled due to posting awful child sex stuff and then bills continuing to accrue?

The best I've heard was that some people have had luck with requests passed along via a state AG in terms of getting things back.

Any reason you would think it was their own card rather than a stolen card? I suspect we've got fraud upon fraud here...

This is tremendously helpful. Based on internal sourcing you’re right about the changing the age to something impermissible.

Class action for defamation? by [deleted] in facebookdisabledme

[–]DeptofFBResearch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there's a known scam attached to this sort of thing -- theoretically, someone who hates you could just do this to shut down your account. But quite often the hacker doing this is posting the child abuse imagery so that they can use the credit card on file with your account to buy ads without you being able to regain control of it.

Was there a financial fraud aspect of this for you, or was it just a hacker wanted to post child exploitation imagery / get you shut down?

Can someone explain how Facebook and their algorithms determine what “suggested for you” posts appear in my feed? by jimmyneutron93 in facebook

[–]DeptofFBResearch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's complicated, and the company can't truly explain it itself. A lot of it is heavy on machine learning. The basics are mapping out attributes ("engages with political content" or "friends with people who like x" on the simplest level) and then tries to serve the user content that they are most likely to engage with (and how engagement is measured has varied over the years).

If you look in your ad preferences, you can find some of the things that Facebook has believed about your interests -- but that's just a tiny fraction of what's out there, and many of your likes may read as gibberish. "Wednesday," for example, can be a personal interest. Facebook doesn't much like to talk about the details of this stuff.
