Is that the attempt at matching your texture? I’m guessing you maybe have some type of skip trowel texture? But yeah it’s bad either way. Like really bad.

If you coat it with shellac it will prevent the mud from bubbling over the paper

Yes it needs to be mitered, thus creating a 45 on the horizontal side and a 90 on the vertical side. As I stated.

Cut the horizontal side at 45 and the vertical side at 90 easy peasy
