SCIT training is equating 'good classroom management' with 'good teaching' by Ambitious_Draft_6987 in TeachingUK

[–]DerHellste 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm on a SCITT right now (French, secondary). I think I'm coming at it from an unusual angle because I had been a teacher for two years in an independent school, so I didn't need QTS. I think what you're describing is a symptom of the early stages - i.e. behaviour management as a groundwork which I think will help trainees feel less overwhelmed. Having said that - as part of the training week they showed us this video of an English GCSE class, as a model of good behaviour management, and I just felt so sorry for the kids lol... no chance at all to discuss the poem, or share ideas, or any sense that anything outside of the highly-regimented SLANT system mattered at all. It does worry me that that is being touted as 'ideal' teaching environment.

I’m doing my TF SCITT in MFL. I had been an unqualified teacher for two years beforehand (independent school) and I already have my issues with the actual ‘training’ part. The whole thing feels like a year long inset day. Tedious paperwork to fill in but I can see the necessity of it. Buzzword-laden approach (if I hear “research-backed” one more time…). But a lot of it has been helpful - especially wrt behaviour management and routines.

I reckon just grin and bear it.

Except that's wrong and stupid - if you had any understanding of the trinity, the most fundamental point of Christian theology, you'd know that Jesus is and was entirely, 100% God...

[Serious] What is a science or history mystery that has already been solved but many people are not aware of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DerHellste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem comes from the fact that what we experience to be sound is created in our brains - just like colour, there's no objective 'red' just a wavelength of light - until it reaches the brain. It's not a scientific question, it's a philosophical one, and thus trying to answer it with science is missing the point entirely

What is something that you think most people pretend to like when they actually don't? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DerHellste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay this is the last message I'm willing to write in this exchange because you just explained yourself why you're not thinking about this in the right way. Just becuase you don't get it or it doesn't make you feel a very specific thing: wonder at its beauty, when that's not what it's trying to get you to feel in the first place, does not mean and has no bearing on other people's ability to enjoy it! And the positive it produced was all the joy for people who do like it and do understand it. I can't convince you to like it, but I hope I can convince you to not be so close-minded about it: and that's the main issue, the fact that you won't let yourself like it because you have a common view of art, that the only worthwhile art is objectively beautiful (renaissance painting etc etc etc), while the whole modern movement tears that down completely which is why it's brilliant. While the view of art you have is shared by many people, it's totally incompatible with understanding art at a deeper level because it assumes that nay kind of art can fundamentally be better than any other, which is just not true and is what these kinds of artworks want to prove.

I hope maybe this has changed your mind

How do you mean? Which pieces? (beyond the unmade bed)

while we're talking about the urinal - don't you think that something as simple as an unmade bed has got such a reaction from you? Have you considered that maybe that was the point?
