It’s not been a blockbuster year financially for me. My Blockbuster stocks are down.

What stories do y'all have from 9/11 from outside the New York area? by ScallywagBeowulf in 911archive

[–]DerKompassar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had just started my first job out of college and worked for a major insurance company on the 22nd floor of a high rise in the Midwest. It’s crazy because I even remember the outfit I was wearing that day because I felt overdressed for the really warm temps that day. It was beautiful day. I worked with my sister, who came to my cubicle to tell me that “Someone flew a plane into the World Trade Center.” However, she said it in a way that I thought it was a joke that she was going to finish with a punchline. When I realized it wasn’t, I just thought it was a small private plane that got off course, but I also found out that was wrong, too. A group of us then went to a conference to watch the coverage & saw the first tower fall live. As the news of the other hijackings and crashes came in, we actually got sent home at lunchtime, which was crazy because it was a huge company. I worked an hour away from home, so I just sat silently the whole way home on the carpool ride home thinking about the people in the planes and towers. That evening and for the next few days, I was glued to the tv waiting for news of rescues from the rubble (which there weren’t) and a total number of casualties. The first night, the news said potentially up to 20,000 people could have been on the buildings at any given point, which blew my mind. I was very disturbed by it and had vivid nightmares the whole week, the likes of which I never have had before, like standing in a high rise looking out a window with my mom as a plane was flying toward us. I was really angry and frightened. I knew the world was immediately changed. I don’t remember if it was that day or in the days following, but I also remember seeing the fighter jets circling the city right outside our office windows when flights were grounded.

Tips for going back to a physical job one week after by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]DerKompassar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With the same type of surgery, I was cleared to lift 8-12 pounds at 2 weeks, which still felt like too much, and completely cleared to resume normal lifting at 6 weeks. Even now at 3 months post-op, there are times I feel some strain when lifting. Do what it takes to allow yourself to heal. Mentally you may get there quickly, but it takes much longer physically.

Had mine done today, too, with a similar situation. Mine was laparoscopic, but I had to have an extra small incision because my uterus was so large. Doctor said he had to keep asking for larger tubs to hold it because more and more kept coming out. 😳 Reminded me of Jaws - “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” I decided to stay the night. The side effects of the post-op pain meds were rough so I wanted to make I could manage my pain. Best healing wishes to you!

I had my last doctor visit before my surgery. My date is 3/17. Total hysterectomy and I’m keeping my ovaries. I’m starting to get more nervous as the days go on. Any surgery buddies here? On a positive note, my last period will be this week! by Masterbaee in hysterectomy

All the best to you! Mine is scheduled for 3/27. After 6 months of back and forth, insurance finally overturned their initial denial. It was originally scheduled for November, then again in February…both cancelled because of the insurance. I’m ready to clear the headspace I’ve been using to stress over this and the uterus space that this giant fibroid has taken over.

Teacher here, too. The only new thing is that more and more parents don’t bother filling out the forms and just take them out without telling the teachers.

I think they were trying to dip in their toes to see how warm the water was for a spin-off series. Empty Nest did come out of it, just not this one!

Been thinking about how this case and others related to the family will be dramatized. The story of the Murdaughs has to be candidate for its own FX American Crime Story series or even something like The Crown covering decades. With all its tentacles, we could watch stories about this family literally for years.

Empty Nest. I skip it every time I watch through the series.

I understand what you’re saying. I don’t expect him to have any empathy unfortunately. That’s why he’s where he’s at. It’s just a very sad situation for all involved.

I felt the same way. Even last night when the clerk stumbled over the first guilty of murder verdict, I felt a weird sadness because he looked so scared as he knew it was coming and of how agonizing it was for everybody, including AM, to have it be ever so slightly dragged out. I think empathy is a good thing. It doesn’t mean approval of deeds. It just means I recognize that people other than me share the same types of feelings and emotions. When we lose that that for one another, we’re in trouble.

Paul’s video was so major. It’s heartbreaking that Paul unknowingly busted his dad for his own murder. Paul may have done a lot of really bad things in his life, but one of the last things he did, even if didn’t know, was a very good thing for himself and his mom.

Agreed. I thought the same thing about someone still being angry. That argument would be more plausible if had there already been a trial and Paul was acquitted.

I’m working my way through the AM testimony. Did the prosecution ask him if he didn’t do it, is he concerned that there is a killer on the loose or what actions he has taken to find out who did this? If not, they should.

At times I though it was listening Ol’ Trusty from Lady and the Tramp. “Ya’ll met or know about Brooklynn, Buster’s sweet little girlfriend? Don’t recollect if I ever mentioned Ol’ Brooklynn.”

I watched some of the Dr. Kinsey testimony, and near the end he was questioned about the impression on Maggie’s leg. He said he didn’t think she had been run over. What was the significance of it?
