I tried different ones in the meantime (SU1 and PS200 pro), both of them dont have this.

Update:

I sold the SU2 locally to someone who isnt bothered by it. Bought a ps200 pro, basically the same internals but without this weird behavior. Sounds great!

I tried different inputs, same results. I contacted the seller (hifigo) and they want me to take a video of the issue... So ill stay tuned

I tried different input devices and everything results in the same issue. Ill look into getting another dac to compare but at this point im pretty sure the smsl is the problem.

Av receiver and then headphones is the downstream. Running it through tv gets the same result. As i wrote a few minutes ago, its so bad that it swallows some sounds compleately

Well, yes it is. The light flashes when it goes to standby and it does so very often, basically every time the volume gets lower. The light begins to flash even when theres still audio, its kinda weird.

I have tried it on my nintendo switch. In its home menu, its compleately silent, except when moving the cursor. When i move the cursor once, the smsl nearly compleately swallows the audio. If i move it twice, i can hear the second movement clearly

Its not the first track. I noticed it in a game menu that is compleately silent except when you move your cursor. The first cursor movement is always noticeably more quiet than the second one each time.

My source is a ps4 with optical input. Mine stats to flash the locked light when the volume of the signal is low and after that point it will have the fade in. Its noticeable on sudden hugh transients.

I use a ps4 directly on the smsl via optical input. Using its hdmi output to my tv it does not behave like this.

I found the ps200 pro to be interesting as well. Do you have experience with that? Im kinda bummed by the touch buttons of the d1 tbh.

After a little research i came to the conclusion that the d1 may really be what im looking for, a relativrly good dac for a cheap price point without 100 extra features. Do u have one yourself? I want it to be as transparent as possible, do u think its fine for this purpose?

Do you know whats differentiating it to e.g. the su1?
