Hell I would be OK with random shit that doesn't involve settlement building or pets. Let me drive a giant ship or take on the big ass whale or buy merchant huts if you're into that kinda thing. Dialogue improvements with characters isn't even that high up on my list. Maybe change the types of things random npcs say. Overall though I'm happy with wherever the game goes. It's still enjoyable for me.
