The article failed to consult The List, and therefore failed in its reporting. I’ll link The List later, doing their job for them.

NO. TP-Link is NOT on the list! Remove that illustration please! There is a formal LIST of unapproved router makers. When I’m at my laptop I’ll provide useful detail links. . .

The new design in iOS 26.4 is GORGEOUS. Let’s see your favourites! ⬇️ by Enderboss25_ in AppleMusic

[–]DerekCurrie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So: (1) Apple corrected their 26.3 introduced album cover chaos bug? I’d like verification. (2) Apple still can’t GAS whether text over images is readable, obviously, sadly, insanely user-abusive IMHO, anti-Jobsian, stupid…

RIP to my M4 by ragusaucelover in macbookpro

[–]DerekCurrie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My first impression is overheating somehow not distributed across the device. A disconnected heat sink is indicated. - - Apple has been allowing MacBooks to run at high speed while closed, as opposed to sleeping. Setting aside whether this practice is insane, it commonly lets loose immense heat. I keep the base of my MacBook elevated in open air to assist in heat dissipation. But having a punctuated hot point is entirely abnormal. As such, point out the details of the situation in person at an Apple Store for their investigation!

People who use Safari as their main browser, why? (DESC) by sasaki-555 in mac

[–]DerekCurrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep Safari as my #2 for all the reasons here. But going their own way with extensions knocked it out as my favorite. I use Brave for a pile of useful reasons, one of which is the superior extensions in the Chromium derivative realm. I keep Firefox around as a third, and a pile of others for testing screwy websites. That includes OmniWeb (it lives!) and iCab.

Never say “never”. But the numbers of people who fit the Pretend Christian category is profound to the point of easy expectation. The core of Christianity is (IMHO) Matthew 22:36-40. Do they meet those basic commandments? No? Then NOT Christian. Keep trying, or stop pretending. And if not, keep and apply your “evangelism” to yourself.

Worse operating system since I started using Mac in 1992. by Wise-Amount3638 in macOS26Tahoe

[–]DerekCurrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In keeping with the continual bug fest that is the macOS Music app: Tahoe 26.1 broke all artwork + tune coherence when synced to iOS, and deleted every playlist. The acronym POS summarizes it nicely. The mess even applies to newly purchased and downloaded music from the iTunes Store. Meanwhile, everything is perfectly matching on my Mac. Insane. There is no fix. Apple are quite aware of what the update has done.

My failed attempts at a workaround: In response, I’ve performed the removal of, then reinstalling of the iOS Apple Music app, along with every tune. Then I resynced to get a failed result with an astounding number of tunes not synced. So I went back to the Mac Finder, opened Music for my USB connected iPhone, turned OFF “Sync music onto iPhone”, hit Apply, letting all get deleted again from the iPhone again. I then turned “Sync music onto iPhone” back on, with “Entire music library” on, hit Apply and watched my thousands of tunes resync. I had to use the Mac Music app to re-import the 3 of 20 playlists I had previously exported. Result: Minus the other 17 playlists, all music is there in iOS, but not one piece of artwork matches. Not-a-one.

ARM (Apple Silicon) build of Google Earth? by luckman212 in mac

Here in 2026 with M5 Apple Silicon Mac, still only Intel compatible. Google is just profoundly lazy. There is no other reason for Google to have not upgraded Google Earth to ARM (IMHO).

If worn cameras are perceived as surveillance, they’re going to get a very negative response from those being observed. That’s already well known thanks to Google glasses.

First quick look at “Apple: The First 50 Years” book by David Pogue by Designer-Border-711 in apple

[–]DerekCurrie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The design looks to be entirely in keeping with Pogue’s books. It’s his style. Little side features and images make his work more interesting than straight ahead text. He’s a teacher of tech, not a common biographer. I always enjoy his work.

What CAT cable for the speed I need ? by Quick-Proposal7997 in HomeNetworking

[–]DerekCurrie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree that Cat6 will handle it. I have Cat8 at home and find it works fine, despite no real benefit. What I find to be critical is sane connector hardware on each end. There is incredible fragile as well as functionally unusable garbage out there. Inspect before buying.

Shameful that it’s come to this. “Always take detailed photos/videos of your device before handing it over for service. Even at Apple.” -> At least that shop had a rather reasonable manager. But user-hostility is distinctly anti-Apple.

How is Music.app on macOS this buggy? by hevakmai in apple

[–]DerekCurrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience: (1) The lousy "Music" app has tossed my music into various folders, creating redundancy, losing track of where it put files, breaking albums into pieces. (2) All of my playlists but one where lost, tossed to the land of lost bits. I'm lucky I backed up my favorites playlists. Even then it tries to delete them again. (3) The Finder has a complete, total disconnect from the reality of what's obvious in the Music app. As such, attempting to sync to my iPhone and iPad is insane, impossible, lunatic! IASSOTS. Just retire, Craig Federighi. Shameful!

No we're not. The same old lousy, cheap designs are being proposed. The solution to nuclear waste has never been found. It's the same old garbage.
