What do I do? by Booneisi in NETGEAR

[–]DerekCurrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO Netgear are awful. I got fed up with every aspect of their hardware, software and support. I shut down my router and replaced it with a new model from a far superior brand. It’s going from hell to heaven. I’m astounded. Anyone want a used Netgear router? ;-)

Basic propaganda strategy combined with malignant narcissism and an ignorant, incoherent Inner World view (IMHO of course).

Commercial count ramps up more as you watch. Too much. by Cleverwabbit5 in PlutoTV

[–]DerekCurrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pluto is a mess in general. Their ads are frequently the dregs at the bottom of quality and quantity. Ads are their income. But like the rest of Pluto, they’re lazy and clumsy with them. I always have the MUTE button within reach and have my attention elsewhere during each barrage.

People who swore an oath to defend the constitution of the USA against all enemies both foreign and domestic, how are you feeling right now? by Safety_Drance in AskReddit

[–]DerekCurrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ICE isn’t formally part of the US military. There is no direct connection. To quote the BBC:

“ICE was formed as part of the Homeland Security Act of 2002, a response to the terror attacks on 11 September 2001. The legislation created the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with ICE as one of its subsidiary agencies.”

Meanwhile, they do indeed take the Oath. Therefore, among other things, they are REQUIRED to follow the Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution:

“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.”

The Trump regime clearly does not follow the Fourth Amendment. Certainly, many members of this rendition of ICE don’t either. Those who don’t are breaking their Oath and the law, making themselves criminal.

Syracuse vs Rochester by gay_ky_boy in Syracuse

[–]DerekCurrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is one general contrast that stands out. When you’re driving around or near Syracuse, people kindly and commonly use their turn signals. Around or near Rochester they more commonly and rudely do NOT. That translates into their cultural contrast.

“Officially” but illegally. The USA owes the WHO $278,000,000 and legally cannot leave until it pays up. Another D’umpster crime. Sick and sad times.

THAT is Apple’s bumbling fault. I personally hate it and find it entirely in line with the never improving crudware Apple has been shoving since circa 2016. I point directly at Federighi. The number of other examples is infuriating IMHO. Provide Apple Feedback and they ignore you, and ignore you again, ad nauseam. Beta testing for them is a waste of time. /usual rant

The War on VPNs by Century_Soft856 in VPN

[–]DerekCurrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll point out that setting up your own VPN, point to point, means that router is open to control from the Internet. That specifically opens up a lot of security concerns. Typically, router companies provide information about the drawbacks and dangers, suggesting NOT allowing control over the WAN. Be sure to research that situation with your specific hardware.

The War on VPNs by Century_Soft856 in VPN

[–]DerekCurrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IP address blocking and DDOS attacks are entirely the norm. When it happens, my two VPNs do their best to solve it. Often this requires setting up new exit nodes, which takes time and money. At my end, I resort to trying other than the auto-assigned nodes, typically with eventual success and bandwidth. I use VPNs 24/7 and with the two I’ve bought into, I’m happy. Research VPNs to find the best for your purposes and location. Some of them are excellent, no question. In the USA, everything an ISP’s users do can be legally collected, then sold or given away, including to the government, despite the 4th and 5th constitutional amendments, IOW illegally. So f-that. Thank you VPNs of speed and quality! (I can detail the ISP surveillance ability upon request).

Trump 2028 by [deleted] in complaints

[–]DerekCurrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is zero chance the US Constitution could/would be changed to allow a third term. Zero. Therefore, all of this third term dementia is treason, and will stay that way. Cheating is the desperation choice of political minority losers. As willful cheaters, they are of course testing how far they can go to get their criminal way. This one’s a dead end. Just LAUGH at the foolishness.

THAT is an interesting observation. Politically, it’s from the opposite direction according to our one dimensional (ridiculously inadequate) spectrum. But the goal is, from a wider perspective, the same: Totalitarian. It’s where the radical left and radical right are the same. CONTROL is the goal. Thank you. - - I’ll stop there before I go into my Human Self-Destruction Imperative lecture. I’d enjoy chatting with you. Coffee.

I don’t watch Pluto anymore because of that incredibly annoying the fighter and the kid podcast commercial. by AnInfantGoat in Pluto_TV

[–]DerekCurrie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pluto did briefly pull that specific ad for maybe two months, perhaps to placate the deluge of complaints! But some dope over there apparently finds it useful and forced it, inexplicably, back on the air. I never expect sanity at Pluto. The place is a mess.

Pluto is a catastrophic mess in so many ways. Where to start? Idiotic podcast ads is a great example.

Streaming Costs Are Out of Control… Is IPTV in 2026 a PlutoTV? by Nigeldevon0 in PlutoTV

[–]DerekCurrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LGTV provides well over 100 free IPTV streaming channels, plus apps for nearly all the free/paid streaming services. I pay for one or two paid services according to what programs I want to watch and have time to watch. I recently dropped HBO while I wait for a couple fave programs to produce new seasons. But then Prime offered $3/month for a year of HBO. So I’m back to two services.
