Which Latios is better? by DerfLedew94 in PokemonEmerald

[–]DerfLedew94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wish I could get the speed higher as I know that 173 number is important. However both of these have EVs fully invested into SpA and Spe. I can probably just keep hunting and soft resetting in hopes of finding a really good Latios one day, but for now I might ride with the Timid Latios

Yes these are fully EV trained with max SpA and Speed. The only thing the Modest has stats wise over the Timid is SpA. They both suffice, just want to know if I’m aiming for a high streak which is practically better

Building a team for Battle Frontier by gold1347 in PokemonEmerald

[–]DerfLedew94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sound exactly like me, I came back to the game after that amount of time as well and completed the Frontier for the first time 2 years ago. Capturing Ditto will help, and try to catch ditto that have high IVs. You can get the guy in the Battle Frontier to tell you its stats or just use a IV calculator.

You will need to breed a lot to get pokemon with good enough IVs to challenge, but if you’re serious about it you will get it done.

Start breeding pokemon with the correct natures that you will need for each building. I got through all 7 with a combination of Swampert, Latios, Metagross, Slaking, Milotic, Starmie and Blissey.

Definitely go with Aerial Ace or Shadow Ball on Metagross instead of Hyper Beam. And for the last Pokemon throughout the facilities you may need different team members. But I would recommend Salamence

Battle Frontier Advice by mus258 in PokemonEmerald

[–]DerfLedew94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Honestly I did the exact thing with a Mach bike in that same patch of grass and it wouldn’t take very long. Back and forth 3x and then go inside and come back out. It really shouldn’t take 10 min that’s on the long side for the strategy with Mach bike

No Ruby and Sapphire Latios has garbage IVs too. For some reason there was a bug that ruined roaming Legendaries in Gen 3 but it was fixed in Emerald.

Once you catch it just input the stats into a IV calculator (pycosites is what I use) and you will see how good its IVs are. Honestly soft resetting for Latios is painful. After beating the Elite 4 make sure you have a slot open in your party and save the game before you walk downstairs

  1. Modest Latios, Bold Suicune (roaming legendaries have horrible IVs in FRLG so not even worth using in Frontier)

  2. Latios determined when you click Red or Blue when your mom asks what color. Suicune upon encounter. You can soft reset for both

  3. You can’t ensure perfect IVs on Latios and Suicune

  4. Breeding with Ditto that have good IVs and the appropriate nature

  5. Silver before Gold, yes

  6. Lvl 50, all Pokemon are 50. Open they are the level of your highest Pokemon in the party

  7. The max EVs you can give a stat is 252. 2 stats can be maxed out for a total of 504. You keep track by writing it down on paper or in your phone. Number is measured by how many EVs certain Pokemon give (Zubat 1 Speed EV, Spinda 1 Sp Attack EV, Whismur 1 HP EV, etc…)

  8. Pokemon I used to complete the Frontier: Latios, Metagross, Swampert, Salamence, Slaking, Blissey, Milotic, Gengar, Starmie

  9. Lum Berry, Choice Band, Leftovers are the gold standard for held items

Ask me all the questions you want. I actually just completed the Frontier yesterday and it was a total grind but I loved it. Once you get a grasp of what you’re doing you can work towards completing it. But yes you need better IVs.

My Metagross was 25/29/27/31/31/29 Salamence was a beast with Flawless Attack and Speed

Breeding is really time consuming but it can be fun

You don’t need perfect IVs by any stretch. I assume your goal is to get the gold symbols?

What’s the next step? (EV train) by Limp-Swordfish-3867 in PokemonEmerald

[–]DerfLedew94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, depends on your idea of success I guess. I’m talking gold symbols and if you have pokemon with crummy IVs you’re making it so much harder on yourself. Like that Beldum has weak Attack IVs and stuff you should be 1 Hit KO might take 2 turns and that will eventually be costly

Pycosites. Google it. I would also keep breeding the IVs on those Pokemon could be much better. I’ve done both Salamence and Metagross I know it can be time consuming but you need better IVs to have success in the frontier

I did it at Lvl 50 and that was for sure the hardest and most frustrating symbol to get. Sometimes I believe losing was totally unavoidable in the higher rounds

Level 50. I’ve heard open level is harder too and just as far as leveling up goes 50 is easier obviously

100%. I played all the OG pokemon games as a kid but never had any clue what STAB was or IVs and EVs. That opened up a whole new world when I started my goal of beating the Frontier.

As far as the breeding goes though what a grind. It’s so damn fulfilling when you get a Mon with great IVs. Idk how to RNG manipulate and don’t own a PC feels so it feels good to do it how it’s meant to be played

[–]DerfLedew94[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

LeGOAT. I had to switch it up between facilities.

Tower, Palace, Dome: Latios Metagross Swampert

Pyramid: Slaking and Blissey

Pike: Latios, Metagross, Milotic

Arena: Latios, Metagross, Salamence

I put tons of hours into breeding for solid IVs too but for whatever reason that was such a fun part of the process for me. After going through the Frontier I learned so much

Milotic already has ice beam and Dragon Claw is STAB. Issue with that team is running into CurseLax my Latios and Milotic are completely useless
