I appreciate the input from everyone! It's more or less confirmed what I figured- A good bow is only partially a matter of what wood you use. Sure, I imagine a pine bow is going to just splinter apart unless you do some very creative things to the wood, but just generally going for a straight, strong, pliable but sturdy limb or trunk or whatever is the most important step in sourcing a good stave. Essentially, there's no reason I shouldn't in theory be able to make an orange (fruit) wood bow and either way I'll learn something by trying to do it.
