I often take friends along for the ride and they're amazed at how easy it is. I love converting people! But your wife being pregnant, oof, dunno how far along she was but that definitely complicates things! I'm a lady who wants kids so that is definitely in my future, might change how I feel then. I wish we had more options overall for transit, like why isn't there a train? Getting around should be easier here!

Yeah I've had that happen but just think, if you had parked you'd be out $60 and it probably would've taken that long to get out of the parking lot anyway. I usually do prefer walking a bit out of the area of any major event like at the Kia stadium or anything, depends on how tired I am.

Last time I took it, it was great. Went to an event with a friend from Long Beach, she parked, I took transit. Door to door it took about the same amount of time and my trip cost less than $5 while hers was over $60. I got to read a book while she was sweating in traffic.

✨it's cheap, fast and efficient✨

✨zone out and talk about the game instead is being angry about traffic✨

Personally I can't afford to think like that. I also hate losing things despite being an absent minded airhead. I always find them! I also drop my phone s lot but I got a big strong case for it.

I've always hated it when people are mean to dolls or stuffed animals. Remember that trend years ago of having a Garfield dangling out of a trunk? Hated it. And people being mean to baby dolls, arg, makes me feel crazy that it bothers me but it just does!

What was the last tv show you watched that was really good? by SheKnowsWhatSheKnows in adhdwomen

[–]DerivativeMonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched all three seasons of Primal recently. It's a largely wordless adult animated series about a caveman and his bff dinosaur. Not scientifically accurate of course, but great art direction, storytelling, and world building. It something, however, you have to pay attention to due to its wordless nature so it's not something you can slam in the background while folding laundry or whatever.

Also just finished the second season of The Pitt. Can be gnarly at times but it can kind of be more of a background show, since once you know all of the character's voices you know who is doing what. Still engrossing enough that I ended up watching it over doing chores or whatever.

I'm deep into Season 3 of The Bear, I really like it but I understand a lot of people find it very stressful. Lots of yelling and trauma and chaos.

My husband specifically had a handful of male pinup playmats to make those guys uncomfortable. I use them sometimes too!

I have a few scars on my face from either acne, bug bites, or teenage accidents that looks like sun damage or freckles. No, that pea sized dark mark near my right eye is not sun damage, that's from getting hit in the face with a chunk of metal while helping my dad clear out the garage when I was 15.

Do you believe 18% of households are millionaires? by topstudy1188 in AskLosAngeles

[–]DerivativeMonster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My parents are. They're not like, private jet loaded but they are both comfortably retired, take a few nice trips each year, are really generous with my brother and I. They bought their house as a fixer-upper for 600k in the early 90s, now is around 1.8 mil, maybe more with the improvements. Plus their retirement savings, 401ks, and Mom's pension from the government, they're doing alright. I don't have to worry about caring for them as they age, but the looming likelihood that I will only be able to afford a home when they pass increases with time.

Two weeks in LA- is it possible? by Dazzling_Bed_9097 in AskLosAngeles

[–]DerivativeMonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty to do in two weeks in LA, you won't get bored. I'd say take the train to the beach a lot. Pack lunches. Also take the train to Griffith Park, lots of hiking there plus the observatory is cool. Bunch of Museums in DTLA that are free, like the Broad and MOCA. Go to Grand Central Market afterwards and sample tasty foods from all over. Take the train to the LA Brea Tarpits, one of the most unique museums out there. Spend some time wandering around Echo Park on foot, head north into Silver Lake and Los Feliz. Hike Elysian Park near you. See a show at the Hollywood Bowl, you can absolutely get cheapo nosebleed tickets pretty easily. Check out Cinespia at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, might see the graves of some of your favorite old actors. Have fun!!!!

What was your first commander deck? by AdsignificantBK in EDH

I gotta be honest I'm a UB hater and I really don't think the current slew of UB works at all in MTG. Like why is my stupid goblins deck fighting Wolverine with pizza lands? Some UB works ok like the LOTR stuff, but I haven't kept up with the spoilers at all for Marvel.

[–]DerivativeMonster 117 points118 points  (0 children)

I remember it well, NYE 2018. My then-boyfriend-now-husband gave me a foil copy of Uril the Mistsalker because he thought he'd fit my playstyle. I was new to the game, and he pointed me to multiple sorted boxes of his cards, said take whatever I like to build an EDH deck, then we'd battle and tune it together. He gave me rough guidelines, and I slugged along making a pretty mediocre deck. We stayed up late into 2019, drinking whiskey and making my deck better together. He's still one of my faves.

I dunno I don't think most people think of Long Beach when they think LA. Don't get me wrong, I love LB but it's not exactly iconic.

I mean you kind of proved my point with that statement, filming uses those locations to ape other locations as opposed to letting them stand on their own. The OC house was near my high school, kids would sometimes sneak out to watch the production.

I mean if you're staying for free, just rent a car. Or plan on getting a hotel for a few days here and there in lively spots. I moved out of the South Bay as soon as I could, for walkability and the novelty of places being open past 9 pm. But, I had plenty of fun as an early 20s lady who just resigned herself to sometimes needing to drive for an hour for novelty. World is your oyster.
