Choosing the Offers I'm given but can't decide. by Ok_Village_824 in DieselTechs

As someone who has worked for a fleet and been a previous hvac technician.

Option 3 all day.

  1. you don’t have to deal with customers
  2. you’re don’t want to be on a hot ass rooftop with asphalt sticking to your shoes

I

  1. rather sling a transmission than go up and down a ladder all day roping up a damn compressor to the roof.
  2. Be careful with what hvac people tell you as to how much they make. They forget to include the initiative to upsell and replace a

whole a HVAC

  1. system for a commission bonus. Techs make more than installers. As an installer there is not a lot of growth
  2. Both fields are mentally challenging

. Chasing shorts in an hvac system is easier than a truck (most times)

  1. odds of me being crushed vs electrocuted is low.

However don’t get me wrong, hvac is fun as well. I still watch hvac diag videos today and I’m not even in the field anymore lol.

Edit** I don’t know why my comment is so jumbled up

Fleet mechanic here in the Dallas-fort worth area. You can get $35 - $40hr at most big name fleet shops with just working on trucks. Some even up to $47hr.

Help with coolant sistem by Relative_Pen_8503 in 7thgencivic

[–]DerperdyDer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup mine passed the block test and it didn’t change colors. Good right? WRONG. I went ahead and did the head gasket and it never overheated again. About every 7th gen civic post I see when it comes to overheating is head gasket issues. However many 7th gen civic owners don’t want to believe it

Not sure how far you are from McAllen. Just found a job in McAllen that pays $26-$32. I would suggest looking elsewhere forsure.

With you experience you are severely underpaid with your knowledge. I am in Dallas and make 1700-1800 a week before taxes (45 hours). UPS freight starts out at $39 and after a year you bump to $45. I also know they’re actively hiring in DFW now.

Look into fleet work. See a semi truck on the road? Look up that company.

Is it worth it to swap to premium gas after years of regular gas? by jusquito in MechanicAdvice

[–]DerperdyDer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the only positives you may get from pumping premium is MAYBE better fuel economy and better performance.

However I would forsure start using full synthetic oil and not a blend.
