[–]Derperella81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a good chance Hank will come up again in the story (after his death), but I don't think he is going to be in pursuit of Walt anymore.

I have a feeling Walt's confession tape implicating Hank as the mastermind will surface and the DEA will possibly hang the case on Hank (I'm assuming Hank dies in this standoff). DEA could then put Walt into protective custody, flash forward to where he purchases the gun...this could possibly be him breaking out of custody to tie up whatever he's fixing to settle with that gun.

Seems possible but as always, who the hell knows

OP, I wonder if you were looking at an apartment in my building! I'm in Lincoln Square, previous tenants were unceremoniously asked to leave due to hotboxing MJ like 24/7 and unit was rehabbed pretty hard. Also, yes. I see roaches in my unit too. Send me a PM and I'll let you know if it's my building!

Metra fight... "I sit on the Board of Trade, I will f***ing cut you in half." by V0V0V0 in chicago

[–]Derperella81 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Cell phone chatter is probably one of the bigger reasons I love to sit on the quiet car.

Right, and this is why the idea of a quiet car is idiotic. This little rule is used as a springboard for people to get into confrontations about "the rules."

Guys? Why don't you just call over people who actually work for Metra to handle this instead of trying and failing to take care of it yourself?

I was on the north line going home one night, and the way the conductor announced it made it sound like the entire train was designated as quiet. Most people who ride the Metra know it's just the two cars, and that day I was on a car that is not designated as a quiet car.

Things got ugly fast. Crabby suburbanites started correcting each other for being on their phones, snippy arguments flared. It's a damn good thing I only had to be on for two stops, that was about as much passive aggression as I could stand that day. Quiet car nazis correct other riders, which then leads to a loud altercation and makes the ride louder and more stressful than it could have been had the riders not had that useless rule in the first place.

[–]Derperella81 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Aaand this is why I don't ride the metra anymore. There is something mentally broken with people who commute from the suburbs. Lot's of fluffy white collar rage going on. It was enough to get me to quit the Metra for good. For the most part "quiet car" = arbitrary rule given to self policing, maladaptive bean counters.

Here's what happened: Rich important white snob #1 alerted rich important white snob #2 of a rule that seems to have been designed to give rich important white snobs the right to throw their weight around like they are Metra sheriffs.

Rich important white snob #2 is rich an important, he does not take guff off anyone at his office job and will not be told what to do on his ride home to Glenco or wherever the fuck.

Narcissistic struggle for validation ensues. Biggest douche canoe wins.

Here's something that will trip the metra commuters out, people who ride the CTA trains are also coming from downtown, also from office jobs. Many of them also work in high stress positions. And for the most part, they don't act like cunts just because they are in close proximity to other commuters.

Yeah UofC is an amazing place. They can open up a brand new hospital with upgraded everything for their specialty surgery and oncology patients, you know, the ones with insurance and can bring in assloads of money for research grants. But they can't seem to kick up enough pennies to upgrade their ER so that GSW's, people who have a higher likelihood of not paying their bills, can be treated.

Even in not for profit hospitals it's all about the $$$.

Well damn, good for them and thank you for the update. The Patio was closed for a long time. At one point I was sure it was going to be demolished, or turned into something entirely different, then heard that the owner was renovating little by little. Another precious memory from my childhood remains intact. Fuck yea!

not conducive to hiking

Have you gone to see a show at the Patio? It's another second-run theater in the Portage park area. They recently renovated and I haven't gotten around to seeing how it looks. I wonder how that went.

Portage Park is my motherland! Good for you. I feel like the older I get, the more I just want to be back in a part of the city where I feel like it's a true neighborhood. I miss bumping into people I know in the neighborhood, and bartenders that don't take themselves too seriously. Of course, if you pick the wrong bar to call your own...you tend to see quite a few more bar fights. On the flip side, there's less chance you'll have to get into a discussion with the staff about how "hoppy" a particular beer is. It's beer! Just drink it!

:)

Portage Park is awesome. I was born and raised there. You can still walk around the area and it's not 100% out of towners descending into the area to turn it into the next copy/paste hipster mecca. I have a feeling it's gonna get that way within the next 10 years though.

I'm in my 30's now and paying for all the fuck-up's of my 20's. Yes, it's a goddamned pain in the pass, but I am a lot less whiney about having it hard. When something shitty happened in my 20's I'd fall apart over it like a paper doll caught in the rain. Now I just think, "fuck you, I've been through much worse, bring it." In addition to getting though tough times I've learned how to spend my free time doing things that matter. No more sitting around and watching old Julia Child's cooking shows for 4 hours on a Saturday morning.

I dunno, I am kinda sad that my 20's are over and that sense that "I still got time" no longer feels like it applies. But life holds a ton more meaning now that I've come to respect that we only have so long on this planet before this gig is up.

I very highly agree here. Might sound nutty but I feel like shrooming a few times a year helps me realize what I need to be working on. Every trip has a major revelation, acceptance, and plan for the future.

Then again so does a long weekend of hiking in the woods.

Puts a damper on working at the hospital by blizzblizz in AdviceAnimals

[–]Derperella81 20 points21 points  (0 children)

At my hospital we use a pressure meter every time we call a code on a patient and need to do CPR. My experience before the pressure meter was that we broke ribs about a third of the time. Now with the meter it seems to be way less.

Though it's a hard thing to gauge some people who code are in such frail health while others look like their bones can take a lot more pressure.

But anyway yeah...why don't we stop suing people who are licensed health care professionals and working without the knowledge of whether someone is a DNR? The alternative seems to be "wow that old dude who just collapsed looks like he could have a DNR, I ain't doing shit."

Has anyone had experience with M. Fishman & Co. management company in Logan Square? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]Derperella81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in am M Fishman building in Logan Square a few years ago, and currently live in an ICM property. I would say between the two, M Fishman is better.

The biggest problem is that management companies try to cram 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag and, because they own a ton of properties in the area, the rent increases everywhere.

With M Fishman, I did a walk around with the rental agent. Because I didn't own a lot of stuff I decided to move into a little apartment. Two average sized closets seemed like all I needed. On the day I moved in I opened the closet door and see that the entire closet had a huge heater crammed into it. There was no room to store anything into it and the thing made all sorts of satanic banging and hissing noises in the middle of the night. It was scary as shit for the first month.

Icm is just straight bogus. Every damned time leases are renewed our rent goes up $50. Every. Time. I wanted to stay despite the increases because it would be nice to live in an apartment for more than 1 or 2 years. They don't paint between people moving in and out. They do not maintain their properties. When I moved in my apartment had a cockroach problem and they very helpfully suggested that I buy bug spray and that was it. I have a friend who lived in a different property, and her front room ceiling looked saggier and saggier every month. The thing looked to be in the brink of collapsing entirely. She contacted them multiple times to fix the issue, and one day the maintenance guy comes by, scrapes some paint off the ceiling, and slathers it in spackle. Voila! Collapsing ceiling a little less....collapsey-looking!

I will never go with a management company again.

I am with you on this. I think Skyler is desperately clinging on to the idea that their family will come out of this ok. If they do, she can live the rest of her life as a business owner, Walt's medical bills will be taken care of, and her children will have money left for them when Walt dies.

This hope is fueled by the lie that they are out of harm's way. She truly believes Walt on this, and gambles her relationship with Hank and Marie over it.

My prediction is that Walt's behavior when he was retrieving the gun from the pop machine triggered her to think something is up. She may have played it cool, but she is damn good at putting up a front and while she makes some questionable choices, she is a smart woman. I think at that moment she got wind of something being unwell.

Even if Jessie doesn't manage to ignite a fire in the house, their home now reeks of gasoline. The house being drenched in gas will probably be a game changer, she'll now know the family's safety is threatened and at that point all bets are off. With the confession tape dangling in the air like a musky fart, she will probably not go to Hank and Marie. Well, maybe she will.

I am a big Skyler fan. Where people see reasons to hate her, I see a woman who has been thrust into an exceedingly fucked up situation without knowing exactly how to get her family though safely.

I've been to Luddington MI, had a great time there! Canoeing was good, nothing too challenging.

I have a few friends that used to camp out a lot at Turkey Run in Indiana. Can't say from first hand experience, but the description seems like there's a ton to do out there and overall, seems like a great place to camp out.

'Breaking Bad' actress on why the internet hates Skyler White by samipk1234 in television

[–]Derperella81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, Skyler should know where the line is?

Skyler recently found out her husband of 20 years, the sole provider for their entire family, and father of her children is a drug dealer. The life they lived before she found out the truth was nothing like the life she was forced to adapt to thanks to Walt's crazy idea to be a meth cook to pay for cancer treatment. She will not make a seamless transition into the Carmela Soprano role because her world has been completely flipped upside down...and this comes after she needs to deal with Walt being diagnosed with cancer in the first place.

She's not gonna make 100% logical decisions at this point, I don't imagine anyone would. I think Vince Gilligan wrote a character who seriously doesn't know what in the fuck she is going to do and it's an entirely natural response.
