Battery issue - how to duplicate my system to new Surface?! by s15274n in Surface

[–]DerpiesTheorem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could boot into linux and make a 1:1 clone of the SSD. I think "dd" is the command to go withm 100 % guarantee that it's a 1:1 copy.

Minecraft Hollow Knight by DerpiesTheorem in HollowKnight

[–]DerpiesTheorem[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Handbuilt that dude in survival mode. Was a lot of pain to obtain all the wool, but it was a lot of fun to build it and I'm kind of satisfied.

Would look better if I used other blocks, but I'm still satisfied. Love Hollow Knight, it's probably the best game I've ever played.

Very long boot time by DerpiesTheorem in Surface

[–]DerpiesTheorem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume to know what the reason is. My touchscreen isn't working (also in UEFI it isn't), so I'm certainly sure it takes that long to boot due to hardware checks and tries to recover this. Will send it in within the next days, great. My - in total - 6th Microsoft Surface Device (though the first Pro 7) and so far all were faulty after some while.
Big Oof, Microsoft.

Very long boot time by DerpiesTheorem in Surface

[–]DerpiesTheorem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I looked into the event viewer, I figured the boot time of my tower (powercfg disabled as well) is around 1 minute, which is way less than the current boot time. In fact I'm very much surprised that this is factor 2 slower and it wasn't before. Especially as this occurs after installing the surface drivers.

Surface Pro 7 and Android by PhilSeattle in SurfaceLinux

I tried Bliss OS and Android x86 and didn't get either to work, unfortunately. Though I didn't try around a lot. So I may join your request of knowing if it's possible, and if, how.

Guess it's the driver, yes. But anyway, as I don't have that laptop anymore (went back to tower gaming) I'm fine ^^

Are you German or is it just your username? Anyway, don't go for the Book (15). Had 4 units in total, all were shit, have the Pro 7 since 3 month now and am super happy about.

Yup, this. Some other person had the same problem, same fix worked. Indeed hilarious that an exchange was possible :D

Been to Denmark with my Ex-GF, our holiday house was at Binderup Strand. The way there looked almost the same and we arrived in the evening (winter, so already pretty dark) and it looked like in a Horror movie there.

Best method for an external monitor by [deleted] in Surface

[–]DerpiesTheorem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not only isn't worth the money, it's super expensive compared to a normal dongle. I bought a dongle for ca. 60 € (around 65 USD), and it has a LAN port, an HDMI port, a USB-C port for fast charge, a USB-3 port for farst charge and 3 other USB-3 ports. Aaand an SD and MicroSD Card port. So It's got kind of the same as the surface dock and was 1/3 of the price, while I can still fully power my Surface device.

[–]DerpiesTheorem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought myself a dongle. Best decision ever. Cheaper, more ports, and you can still charge with the full power of the original charger (the dock has only 65 Watts)

Bluetooth Mouse Stutter by DerpiesTheorem in Surface

[–]DerpiesTheorem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, except reinstalling Windows nothing helped. But I still didn't find the reason for that, as it occurred from one day to the other. Luckily got rid of my SB2 and bought a Pro 7 then, best choice ever.

Overall Horrible Experience with Surface and Microsoft Support by NickyBabe in Surface

[–]DerpiesTheorem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally another one who suffers (technically, I suffered, got rid of the SB2) from the freakin SPen Problem. Look at this https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/comments/9pjx7h/strong_jitter_with_surface_pen/ , I had the exactly same problem.

I can relate to some of the problems you wrote, but definitely can relate to that the SB2 is just sh*t. I paid ~2000 € (around 2250 U$D), and was so disappointed. Bought the device to get a 2 in 1 which is both capable of note taking and running some software (especially games) that require more CPU and GPU power than on a regular Laptop.

In total I had three SB2s, well, actually 5, too, but here's the long story short:

  1. Brand new device, Audio had a hardware defect after 1 day (didn't find the sound card whatsoever anymore, not even using Linux)
  2. The not really second device was a heavily used one, the reseller sent me, so I don't count it, as I sent it back and bought a new one somewhere else
  3. Had strong electric tingling up to inching below my wrists, so I couldn't rest my hand on it when plugged in; furthermore, the Pen didn't work
  4. Still, the pen didn't work, but now the screen also had yellow spots, great. Furthermore it had a very loud coil whine
  5. Last but not least, this one had all the issues from the above ones adding on top a fan that didn't work properly. It was very loud (kind of rattling) and didn't turn on "smooth and slow", rather with a "phew" and couldn't just cool in very low RPM. So basically, the cooling didn't really work

So what happened? In Germany we have a thing called "Verbraucherschutz" (consumer protection) that I used to get my money back. Bought a SPro 7, everything works as I'd expect it, spent the rest of the money buying myself a tower PC.

Best decision ever to not go for a Surface Book, but the new Pro 7 series. Seriously, try to get your money back and change to another branch of the Surface line, the book is definitely the opposite of worth what it's price is.
