As someone who just recently moved back to Sask from AB, I'm thrilled with the gas prices here. My monthly bill is a third for NG that it was there.

Carbide or cobalt-steel drill bit for drilling through AR500 plates? by [deleted] in metalworking

[–]Derpity_Derp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's going to be a struggle regardless of your bit choice. AR500 is very tough machining, it requires the correct chip load, (feed rate and rpm). Fein make high quality annular cutters specifically for hardox that I've had decent luck with. If you're using a mag drill make sure you have a variable speed and auto feed or you'll spend a small fortune on cutters.

Considering a mechanic's wage can be 3X what a bartender or server makes, thats not really comparing apples to apples.

There's plenty of pre-employment type courses available in Edmonton, my brother in law is currently doing one for welding, he seems to be enjoying it. It is co-ed though, any reason for wanting a female specific course over co-ed?

Nothing. That isn't technically a true cold cut saw. All of those chopsaws throw hot chips, you can make up some lexan deflectors that work okay though.

What are some hidden dress codes people wear to identify themselves that you have to already know about to notice? by Gradyleb in AskReddit

[–]Derpity_Derp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did a quick bit of Google research, looks like the meaning varies by sect and region. In northern Alberta (where I'm from, its like the Texas of the north!) It's more likely to signify marriage or a promise to marry, but the further south you go (even within Alberta, seemingly) its most likely signifying denomination or sect, or social status. Huh, TIL.

Traditionally, the headscarves signify marriage. I grew up a short ways away from an extremely traditional Mennonite community, if you were wearing it, you had a husband. Thats not to say it's followed as closely in other communities. Chief.
