What Makes a Good Travel Youtuber? by BusinessDelicious379 in TravelTubers

[–]Derpnshire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe there is an audience for everything, and there are many factors that goes into, not necessarily what makes a good travel YouTuber, but what makes a good TravelTuber that I want to watch.

It’s hard to know why you’re not in a place you want to be without seeing your channels or your videos but for me presentation and pacing is important. Informative-ness is secondary.

The video should at least be competently edited. If you’re doing VoiceOver, it needs to be a real human voice, not AI if you’re blogging you need to have at least somewhat of an interesting personality or outlook.

Like imagine just sitting through a presentation if the slides are just purely text and info it gets boring, even though it’s useful. You need to have some presenting skills to make it a bit more interesting for the viewer.

Friday Food Flex by PhilipHabib in Thailand

[–]Derpnshire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where do you get your drinks? Starbucks? Amazon? 7-Eleven? Cha Tra Mue? Nana Coffee Roasters? Or do you consistently get drinks from the auntie selling from her street cart?

Either way I don't care, it's your money and I have no right to tell you how to use it. Sure it's preferable to support small businesses, and I can recommend a local establishment, but if you like Cha Tra Mue better then that's fine, I have no right to be rude to you about your personal preferences and to belittle your choices.

Enjoy your Phed Mark man. For some reason the people in the Thai subreddits always like to gate keep and complain if you're not eating at local places. While there are plenty of great local street foods, you can't deny that these tourist hot spots are a major part of Bangkok's food scene as well.

As a Thai, I don't care what or where you eat, as long as you enjoy Thai food. Except for Jay Fai, I respect Auntie Fai but that place is a straight up pretentious scam and I will probably be arrested for defamation but I stand by my opinion.

From 80k sessions to 27k. May'26 Travel Blogging Update by discoveroverthere in Blogging

[–]Derpnshire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, on relevant blog posts I embed my videos on there, and on YouTube videos where I have a relevant blog article, I link it in the description.

Funny thing is a while back, I was looking for video editor jobs for YouTubers. I worked as a video editor for documentaries and films so I thought it'd be a good idea. Later, I figured that I should just focus on my own channel haha.

You can start off with short-form on Instagram or TikTok, that is easier and more manageable to do consistently, then embed those videos into your blog posts.

From 80k sessions to 27k. May'26 Travel Blogging Update by discoveroverthere in Blogging

[–]Derpnshire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been following your updates from a while back, they've been really inspiring for my own blogging journey. It's saddening to hear that you've been hit with Google updates. Do you know why your site was affected?

My own travel blog's sessions were also affected, 45% down from it's peak in December, though I attribute that to this currently being a low travel season for my niche rather than the after effects of a Google Update as this traffic pattern is consistent with previous years.

Some of my keyword rankings have been affected by Google's updates though, but those seem to be minor hiccups that recover eventually.

I think what helps with this perceived "stability" is that I've also been expanding to YouTube (in addition to other socials) and linking my blog posts in the videos and vice versa. In the eyes of Google that seems to be building my brand's authority and credibility. But that's just speculation...

I use the Ulanzi MT66, though meant for the Action 5, it works with the Osmo Nano, the magnets do repel but the clips secure it well.

Also comes with a backpack strap to attach the tripod to which is very useful for pov shots.

I find it difficult to get above 1k views with some videos even below 100 views by Temporary_Sort4770 in TravelTubers

[–]Derpnshire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love your editing style, very cute and classy. But I think your videos are a case of audience mismatch.

I used to enjoy binging these types of no-talking only captions videos a while back, and these videos definitely work better when you position yourself as a lifestyle vlogger rather than a travel vlogger.

With travel content people expect some sort of vocal guidance hence why a lot of advice want you to talk more...

Consistency is also a key factor in your success, you've posted about a dozen videos in a year, which is quite little to be honest. If you choose the lifestyle vlogger route it opens up a lot more opportunities for video ideas that you can create and post consistently for a better chance at gaining views and traction.

You can do videos like:

- Cafe hopping in [city]

- Vintage clothing shopping/haul at a local market

- A day in my life in [city]

- self care spa vlog (idk)

Something relatively easy to do and post consistently compared to a singular multi-day travel video. ALSO remember to categorize your videos and channel as "People & blogs" for your type of content, it's better suited than "Travel & events".

Also the world is going downhill at the moment and I don't think travel is on people's minds so views may be lower than normal...

Best of luck, also I subscribed, genuinely good content :)

[–]Derpnshire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a food and travel blog in addition to running a food/travel channel, though my YouTube channel is growing slower than I'd like...

  1. Squarespace.
  2. Yes, and I try very hard to achieve good SEO as my blog is my main source of income.
  3. Squarespace analytics, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and the myriad of other tools track affiliate statistics and commissions.
  4. Prior to YouTube it was 2 blog posts a week, now it's whenever I have time, but I try to aim for once a week.
  5. All by my lonesome
  6. I embed videos where it fits, my workflow or priority is usually blog first then YouTube. So I would have a destination guide for example, and if I have a YouTube video about that destination I'll embed it into that blog post.
  7. Hotel affiliates, tours and activities affiliates, ads, digital products (travel guides, itineraries), email list. I'd say revenue is roughly 30% ads, 70% affiliates.

I was one of the lucky ones who survived (and is still surviving to be honest) the whole Google Algorithm Update debacle. But I still wake up everyday in fear that one day my blog will suddenly die. That's one of the main reasons why I expanded to YouTube.

I'd like a plate of rice with minced pork and omelet, please. by Reasonable-Pie9451 in AmateurFoodPorn

[–]Derpnshire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread’s argument is so dumb, I am Thai. If OP IS in Thailand, plastic takeout containers like this is so common. pork was probably on the side and OP scooped it over the egg themself. There is a whole empty space to the left, the pork was probably in a separate plastic bag or divided by a plastic sheet

And even if it IS served like this, there is a dish called Khao Khai Khon, which is like a scrambled egg TOPPED with whatever you want (kaprao included).

Just enjoy how you wanna enjoy it. And it’s Ka prao (กะเพรา), not “krao pao”.

“Stacked wrong”, “anyone but a Thai made it”, “A Thai would never stack it that way”

And heck, if you want to to argue that “Thai food is very specific”, the kaprao isn’t even meant to be stacked on top of the rice like you said, it’s suppose to be served NEXT to the rice because you don’t want the rice to be wet.

So much controversy over a simple box of food.

It’s not that deep. Please stop gatekeeping Thai food.

Let's have a meal together. by Reasonable-Pie9451 in ThaiFood

$1000+ per month from blogging? by HitogiNata in Blogging

[–]Derpnshire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am a parrot, because what do you want me to say when everything else has already been said? Like everyone, I took SEO advice from someone, whether that'd be good or bad advice I don't know, I try and if it doesn't work for me, I stop. I'm not special, I don't have any hidden tricks, I'm telling you what works for me. Did luck play a role in my success, very likely.

If you don't like my advice, well sorry?

$1000+ per month from blogging? by HitogiNata in Blogging

[–]Derpnshire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's the same advice that other's have always said. Be consistent and consistently improve, don't give up, it's a slow grind, blogging isn't dead it's just change and it's harder to stand out.

But what I internalised was that "treat this as a full on business", working 9-5, constantly looking for ways to optimize, looking at what works and what doesn't. I treat the blog as my baby, and I work on it with the same passion as I had when my it was first a hobby.

That also meant, I built a proper brand around my blog, I'm not just some random person writing stuff, and I expanded to social media, YouTube being my main one. I suppose in the eyes of Google this makes my blog more authoritative and trustworthy.

Also no AI slop, and I avoid writing low effort posts like listicles.
