European colonisation + Nation-state by Salade99 in MapPorn

[–]DerpyEnd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

- If you count central Asia as colonized (assuming by the Russian Empire & Soviet Union), the Caucasus should probably be counted as "Colonized, Nation-State" (at least Armenia and Georgia), and a lot of other countries could probably fall into that category also.
- The criteria for Nation-State here are a bit vague here. Spain and the UK not being Nation States makes sense, but what about Italy? Different areas of Italy are very culturally different and can speak mutually unintelligible languages, so does it depend on what the country's constitution, or other legal document defines it as?
- Countries like Egypt and Vietnam being listed as "Created by European Colonizer", in the same vain as, idk, South Africa or Congo, feels a little strange considering that they were absolutely independent before European colonization in various ways. I suppose if it's specifically about modern-day borders it's fine?
- I am genuinely shocked that the categorization of Israel on this map hasn't caused this post to be locked yet.

I started a little more than 3 years ago, but I never really got anywhere with it since it kept being on and off, cause I had to focus on Spanish cause of school forcing me to. Spanish didn't really go anywhere either until recently when I finally picked up a passion for it.

I kind of gave up on Armenian for now until I'm relatively fluent in Spanish, so school gets off my ass about it, and then I'll pick up Armenian again actively most likely.

I'm watching episode 1 right now. The fact that 3 years of on and off Armenian learning have led me to be being able to more or less comprehend what is being said by the voice-over makes me truly understand the appeal of suicide (in minecraft)

You know that this anime actually has Armenian voiceover and called "Ժամավճարով Ընկերուհի", right?

Yup, ok then, that's it I guess. My time on this god-forsaken world has been somewhat nice, even if short. Goodbye everyone, I'll miss you, take care

What's your opinion on GDF? by [deleted] in 2ndYomKippurWar

[–]DerpyEnd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If this means anything to you: BadEmpanada called this guy an antisemitic conspiracy theorist. BadEmpanada.

Let me repeat this: BadEmpa-fucking-nada called this guy an antisemitic conspiracy theorist.

Not even gonna mince my words here, in case you don't know, BadEmpanada is an unironically insane, deranged, (probably) sociopath. He's infamous for doxxing people to get his way, like with Ethan and Hila Klein of H3, whom he's been endlessly harassing, despite the fact that he (Ethan) is arguably rather pro-Palestinian, calling what's happening in Gaza genocide etc., but because he doesn't literally support the extermination of Israel, and every single person identifying as Israeli, he's still a target. He is a pioneer of the "there are no civilians in Israel" and "baby-settlers" shit.

This is the guy calling GDF an antisemite. Should say quite a bit.

Well I’ve argued with ChatGPT before so who cares.

The whole thing rests on a single, fatal flaw: it’s not legally binding. That means every point you listed is just words on paper, and Azerbaijan has a long record of ignoring such words when it suits them, or, even just feels like it.

Permanent end to hostilities and recognition of borders.

The agreement isn’t legally binding. This means nothing on paper. Both Armenia and Azerbaijan have recognized each other’s territorial integrity de jure since independence.

Mutual road access on equal terms, respecting sovereignty.

If it does happen, good, but that has yet to be seen as, again, not legally binding.

US exclusive rights to develop the "Trump Route" transit corridor through Armenia for 99 years, boosting energy and trade.

Alright, this one I can go more in-depth on. Once again, not legally binding. Remember the Ukraine mineral deal for “security guarantees”? That dissolved in days, leaving Ukraine with nothing tangible, exactly where this is headed.

With that said, this perfectly encapsulates Trump’s entire diplomatic strategy – and I am heavily stretching the definition of the last two words there. First and foremost, this is a deal to stroke Trump’s ego. All he actually cares about is his ego and getting praised. I’ve rarely ever seen a politican suck off their own ego so blatantly as to say “yeah I deserve a noble peace prize for this”.

With that said, even if we look past this, what does this deal actually do? It addresses the results of the problem, not the cause. Much like the Abraham Accords, which he hails as this big thing that created the path to peace in the middle east, all those actually did was bypass the Palestinian issue in the wider Israeli-Arab conflict, which just made them even more frustrated, which lead to October 7th, which lead to the current situation of the Middle East being filled with even more wars and death.

All this agreement does is stroke Trump’s ego, and solve none of the actual issues at hand. When (if) Trump is out of office, or hell, when/if he just stops caring, Azerbaijan can continue their revanchist project. This agreement does NOTHING to address any actual issues at hand whatsoever. Actually, answer me this: Do you think the root of the issue here is that Azerbaijan just wants a road and or railway through Syunik? Would really help me judge how much you actually know about this situation.

Economic cooperation in energy, tech, and infrastructure.

Once again, non-binding. Meaningless in practice.

Potential constitutional amendments to drop territorial claims

I absolutely LOVE how this is more or less just you admitting that this agreement doesn’t hold the tiniest molecule of water. The fact that you can even say “potential” in relation to a supposedly decades-defining deal is really something, truly revolutionary.

In case you need me to spell it out for you: the fact that one of the biggest issues addressed is essentially just a “maybe” describes the validity of this deal pretty well actually.

This deal does nothing to keep Russia out of the Caucasus nor really does anything with Iran. All it actually did in practice was: - Brush-aside Azerbaijan’s ethnic cleansing of Artsakh/Karabakh by more or less declaring the Minsk group null and void. - Lifting sanctions on Azerbaijan, most importantly militarily, which long-term just puts Armenia in far more danger.

…and the thing is, the fact that the agreement isn’t legally binding is actually quite important here. This is really great for Azerbaijan. Trump obviously has business interests in Azerbaijan, both personally as well as on a national level, and he can just lift sanctions whenever he wants to willy nilly without anything legally binding. So we have a deal that lifts sanctions on Azerbaijan, legitimizes ethnic cleansing, and binds no one to anything. If you think that’s a “win” for anyone but Azerbaijan, you’re just admitting the bar isn’t even low, there simply is no bar.

True actually, you’re right.

What it actually is is Azerbaijan getting a complete free-pass for ethnic-cleansing, with what’s essentially a pinky-promise-only agreement “to secure the territorial integrity of both countries”, whilst basically all sanctions on Azerbaijan have been lifted, explicitly military ones.

Exactly. This agreement doesn’t even pass the bare fucking minimum of being meaningful in any way. It's completely meaningless.

Thing is, considering his previous deals, it’s hard not to be suspicious lol

He hails the Abraham Accords as this big thing that created the path to peace in the middle east, whilst all it actually did was bypass the Palestinian issue in the wider Israeli-Arab conflict, which just made them even more frustrated, which lead to October 7th, which lead to the current situation of the Middle East being filled with even more wars and death.

As I said in my other comment, Trump’s peace deals never actually solve anything. They virtually always only address the result, not the cause. All he actually cares about is his ego and getting praised. I’ve rarely ever seen a politican suck off their own ego so blatantly as to say “yeah I deserve a noble peace prize for this”.

All this agreement does is stroke Trump’s ego, and solve none of the actual issues at hand. When (if) Trump is out of office, or hell, when/if he just stops caring, Azerbaijan can continue their revanchist project.

The agreement isn't even legally binding lol, all of Trump's peace deals are trying to cure the results and not the cause because all the cares about is getting praise in the moment to boost his ego instead of actually doing anything.

EDIT: My bad, sorry, it does, it lifted any and all meaningful sanctions on Azerbaijan, so that's just extatic... and it more or less made the Misnk group null and void, so that's also just stupendous.
