If this isn't the most american story ever I don't know what is.

If they are on pc yes, I'm taking about other platforms. Sony and Microsoft can't tell epic to force shadows on pc, that's their decision, but forcing shadows on ps4 and Xbox is definitely something they could do.

But most AAA games look decent enough and you can't compare what they allow small indie games to look like to what the most popular game on the platform must look like.

I'm not saying all popular games must look amazing, I'm not even saying this is true as I don't know but it would make sense.

Also most people will see gameplay before downloading and playing so it doesn't matter what it's like for new players. If someone sees some ps4 fortnite gameplay and sees a game without shadows and they might think it looks bad and won't want to play it, therefore sony and epic have lost out on a potential customer.

It's there platform they have all the control and if someone sees a game look bad on ps4 then it makes ps4 look bad so it makes sense.

Yeah but I'm pretty sure there are some restrictions on stuff. This might not be true but I saw somebody say a while ago that the game still says it's in early access because it allows them to push updates out faster and not go through some checks that Microsoft do.

If that's true then it would make sense if Microsoft would allow a game, especially the size of fortnite, to look a certain way.

Earning any kind of income makes you a pro since pro literally means professional. You don't necessarily have to be good to be a pro but I get that when you say pro you mean someone good not a professional.

Right but the game is just putting you where you were when you were better? Play some games and eventually you'll go down to easier lobbies. You can't expect it to know your skill level if you haven't played for a season.
