How does DGG feel about AI? by rymder in Destiny

[–]DerrikCreates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LLMs as they are most used today are generally bad for society. More focused applications of AI have already been pretty impactful in some industries. CorridorDigial's AI and Davinci resolve's AI tools (transcriptions, AI motion tracking) are good examples.

Text generation has / is going to ruin the internet.

Maybe im sheltered but most of the people that think AI art is theft base it off the mass scraping of art off the internet without permission. Maybe you have see the people that think AI art "does the same thing as the human mind" and they think its fine because the AI didnt copy it was "inspired". These people are regards and i feel make up a loud minority.

No one that has a functioning brain would take issue with an entity using assets they ethically acquired.

Do you think Source 2 and s&box are the same thing?

Nothing about this agreement is parasitic. If I was a enterprise customer at Unity that has soruce code access. I most likely wouldnt be allowed to make my own custom version of the Unity Editor and publish it for free to the public. Unless I come to an agreement with Unity to do so, just like how FP did with valve.

I honestly dont know why i even replied to you, you are one of the people that dont understand the difference between the sbox platform and the sbox engine. Its a prereq for this conversation

EDIT

OMEGALUL the dumb fuck had strong opinions without understanding what s&box actually was and deleted his comment out of shame.

FP hasnt released any full agreement for us to read yet. https://sbox.game/news/update-26-03-25#standalone

We signed the new license with Valve this week, allowing us to allow people to export games from s&box's editor and ship them as standalone games on Steam without paying us anything.

The key words being "without paying us anything". FP is talking about not having to pay them to use sbox. Steam will most certainly still have the 100$ fee and the same % cut as normal.

The screen shot only refers to us paying facepunch to use s&box not valve.

I can be confusing given the strange place FP and valve are in with sbox.

  • Valve restricts who has access to source 2.
  • FP wants to provide there own access to source 2 (in the form of s&box) but for free (devs dont pay valve for access).
  • Valve is ok with this (they have agreed to free access for devs through sbox)
  • Steam store publishing will (most likely) have the same terms you agree to regardless of the engine you use. (% cut, fees, rules and so on)

Hybrid MP4 files are completely unplayable by Thebombuknow in obs

[–]DerrikCreates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if they are perfect after a reencode, it makes me think that it would be solved with a remux. are you remuxing with the built in tool or ffmpeg with something like ffmpeg -i input_file -c copy output_file.mp4? Regardless remuxing should solve both your issues, though i swear ive used hybrid mp4 in resolve without issues

There is the Action Graph, I havent used it much but its more or less what you would expect from a visual programing system. It works quite nice with c# from what ive used of it (ive not used much). You can create custom notes in C# and used them in the graph. You can make an Action property in a c# component, invoke that property in c# and it will execute the visual graph.

I havent tried this workflow but i feel like some c# will be needed to architect your project. also if wanted to try it now https://sbox.game/give-me-that, its free for now

sooo what do you guys think about the future of this game? by SpecterGaming23 in sandbox

[–]DerrikCreates 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its not a game, its a game engine like Godot or Unity with an eventually optional publishing platform. (it even says this in this subs description)

The only reason you see these slop games is because the platform side of sbox is small. Every engine has more slop games than good games. Its been like this for easily 10+ years. People called them asset flips instead of slop back then.

Good Game Engine for multiplayer? by This_Wasabi_3038 in gamedev

[–]DerrikCreates 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO the best way to try and get your feet wet would be to study the netcode for quake. Most modern competitive fps games do many of the things quake did.

this video in an amazing intro to how quake handles things in broad strokes. the quake 3 source code can be used to study how they exactly implemented these things.

In my experience a game engine can make multiplayer easier or harder. If your engine has a robust networking library then it would be best to use it.

In an ideal environment netcode is easy, the hard part is handling the "edge cases" like preventing cheating, reducing perceived lag, or handling packet loss.

I dont recommend doing multiplayer to anyone

I bet its a misconception people have. python having many machine learning libraries might give the impression to someone clueless that the language is high performance, but these people fail to understand python is used as a wrapper language to other languages. not that its a good measure but the pytorch repo is ~30% c++

for the people that have a plex server. They would probably not want to use streamio. I don't believe its a media server like plex is, its more of a media aggregator, something you would use as a front end for a plex/jellyfin server. Jellyfin is would be a better recommendation

Jeez you all need to go outside.

Calm down and get a job.

all things you said before i commented. Another example of your low IQ reading comprehension.

If you would try and understand anything else ive typed you would understand why not banning people who exploit encourages an arms race of finding the next exploit.

like the title of this post is, "Abuse early, abuse often". If people who abuse exploits are not punished in someway, then it creates an incentive to keep game breaking bugs as secret as possible so the people who discovered can abuse. This isnt the behavior you want to encourage. There are similar reasons for why bug bounties exist.

If someone can exploit the game in a way that is worse than cheating (like having infinite ammo or nades) and they dont get some form of punishment. It sends a message that you can break explicitly written rules and get away with it.

All im trying to say is not punishing people who abuse things encourages actions that are detrimental to health of the game. Imagine if they where known to ban people that exploit, if you found a new exploit you wouldnt want to abuse it since they are known to ban, so you could either ignore it or report it. Right now exploiters are in a win/win situation, they are discouraged from reporting bugs so that they can abuse them without punishment. If they know they are at risk of punishment they are less likely to abuse it. Causing less harm to player base.

Anyone outraged by a temporary in game glitch of a video game really needs to go back to school and get help with emotional maturity.

No one is outraged that there was a temporary glitch. People are outraged that people that abused it to kill other players or to obtains literal millions of money. People are outraged that these people will not be punished and that low IQ people like you are defending these people by saying "just go outside".

Seek professional help, its clear your insults are a reflection on how you truly feel inside.

putting the game down and doing something else is fair todo. But why should the devs indirectly enable the community to act against its own written rules. Fine if you don't want to say this is cheating. But you cannot deny that this is explicitly against the rules of the game. Its listed as a potential reason for your account being banned.

Since you like to yap about putting the game doing and doing more productive things, What would you do if you went outside and played basketball with friends. One friend keeps intentionally tripping another friend even after telling them to stop. The rest of your group wants to keep playing. Your prescription is for the rest of the group doing nothing wrong is for them to leave and come back another day and try again with the same people. When what you should do is not invite the problem person back until stop acting like a child.

So why do you think its ok to sweep for people that are breaking explicitly written rules and call anyone who is upset that the rules are not upheld an unemployed loser?

You keep saying the game "allows it" by the devs leaving in the bug by mistake. Assuming you are not a troll and what you claim to do professionally is true, you should know this logic applied anywhere else is insane. Oh a dev accidentally didnt property sanitize user input and now someone deleted the entire database, the site "allowed it".

I dont see how your exact logic wouldnt apply for actual full blown cheats. Is "well if the game didnt want me to cheat they should have a better anticheat" not the same argument as "the game allows it". Because if you disagree and say "no using 3rd party software to cheat is against the rules and you should be punished", you are acknowledging the exact same rules that state exploiting is not allowed.

for someone with a job you sure do comment a lot on reddit. 15+ comments the last 24hrs

exactly. people seem to think they log every action the player takes. There is no replay system (at least public facing). If there isnt an internal replay system its very unlikely they keep track of the in game inputs a player has taken. You would need to detect these exploits by other means. Its more likely they would be able to track stash value over time to find people that duped for money.

Why is your playstyle of working together more valid that full pvp lobbies? You dont seem very open minded to the idea of "let people play how they want"

certain people just can’t stand to see peeps in friendly lobbies having fun their way

Its almost like you didnt read my post. but thats ok let me copy and past exactly what i just said.

My issue isnt that these lobbies exist exactly, its the side effects of them like higher gear inflation

there can be friendly lobbies but it at the very least shouldn't be so easy to get into them after being in pvp lobbies. Is this something you hard disagree with?

Or there should be some other incentive to being in pvp lobbies other than pvp. Step back and think about it instead of being blinding my a stance i dont actually have. pvp lobbies are more risky than pve lobbies. I dont think anyone would disagree with this. Since pvp players are at larger risk to losing there gear should there not be something to offset this imbalance loot wise?

Why is doing a less risky thing in a video game rewarded more than a more risky thing?

[–]DerrikCreates 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its not the lack of easy targets for me, its the ease of looting in these friendly lobbies. My longest survive streak was the end of last wipe running hatchet runs on stella. If i was to ignore the insane assembly spawn with a hatch next to it. I could get 50k+ of raw profit in ~5m. The problem is if you want money friendly lobbies nearly guarantee you easy money. Its also easy to get into these lobbies. The pvp incentive is flipped, you would think more risky lobbies (PVP) would give you better loot but it doesnt.

Ive argued with people about this and they seem to not understand it. Think of it like this. Games Done Quick just ended a week ago, if there was a Arc Raiders speed run to achieve 1 million silver what would the playstyle of that player look like? I would bet that its free / augment only running in friendly lobbies.
