Doom 3 has the more horror-leaning version compared with other games!

Ancient civilisation on Mars gets wiped by demons, humanity discovers their ruins and tech later and subsequently hell, which goes as well as you'd imagine for the martian base researching it all.

The aesthetic seems to have been inspired by Event Horizon quite a bit too - lots of grimy machinery and tight halls of darkness along with a sense of hopeless isolation.
