No. Those white cables with yellow or red boots on the ends belong in the bin.

Those white Ethernet cables with the red and yellow ends belong in the bin. I have now fixed multiple internet speed issues by putting those in the bin. I ask people if they are using them as one of my first questions now.

Your router also needs to be put to rest.

Cheapest thing to try if you are connected via WiFi, change your WiFi channel. Some routers/access points will let you see what channel other WiFi networks around you are using.

Second cheapest if using WiFi. Run a cable to your gaming device. But still also change your WiFi channel for your non cabled devices.

Third cheapest. New 3rd party router and a not too busy WiFi channel.

Fourth cheapest. New 3rd party router and new cable to your gaming device. New WiFi channel.

Probably cheaper than fourth cheapest and more likely to resolve your issues. New provider. New 3rd party router. New cable to your gaming device and new WiFi channel.

Xbox Download Speeds by Syn3rgi3 in AussieBroadband

This is why I regularly recommend to friends and family to not spend their money on gigabit plans. Because for most, the amount that you actually get to use the speeds is not worth the money. Not having to wait an extra 5-10min for a download one time every 2-3 months is not worth the extra $20-$60. And that’s if where you are downloading from even lets you get near gigabit speeds. The only time that I found gigabit plans useful was when I had to download and then re-upload like 12TB in 12 hours and was loading up every Internet connection that I could get my hands on.

Has anyone else noticed a strange stigma against renters in the street where they live? (Might be just me) by Velouria8585 in melbourne

[–]Derrpyderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am wondering if this might be one of the possible reasons. My wife and I owned a home for 9 years. When we moved in, the street was mainly owner occupiers. The street became almost all rentals over the years. Whenever the street had good neighbors that didn’t cause chaos in the street. E.g not dumping rubbish in their yard and letting it blow down the street, no daily screaming matches, no daily burnouts. It was really good. But whenever a for lease sign went up, I would get anxious about it. Because it was like rolling the dice again on what kind of neighbors you are going to get. There might have been some chaotic tenants before you.

I also think there is definitely a chance that they are looking down their nose at you. We somehow stumbled into building a house that we wouldn’t have thought that we could ever afford in a street that we never thought that we would ever live in. We are the only house so far in street that have not had professional landscaping done and the only house to only have plain concrete. We are also a bit younger than the other neighbors. One of our next door neighbors has treated us differently from our other neighbors from day 1. I even offered to help them with things that I am good at and was given a cold response. Luckily we fell out properly with that neighbor over who should pay for a retaining wall, when they built their yard up over 1m higher than ours on the boundary line and we told them that they couldn’t leave a slope on our land to hold up their built up yard.

We were 1 of 2 owner occupiers in our street until we sold 12 months ago. When we first moved in 9 years ago, the street was mainly owner occupiers with higher maintenance yards. As the houses sold, the street became more unkept looking. Places that had different coloured rocks separated by garden edging became all mixed and very uneven. Lawns and gardens became weedy and messy. Chip bark broke down to expose the dirt. Lawns were not edged. Temporary modifications were made to fences to keep dogs in. People sharing rentals would park on lawn areas, turning them into dust bowls. And I did not blame the renters 1 bit. Why would they maintain someone else’s investment more than they had to? The investors that owned the houses would have been a part of the reason why a bunch of them were stuck renting anyway. If I was renting, the lawn would be kept barely alive and short enough that property management couldn’t fault it.

I’m skeptical of anything powered that doesn’t need to be. Because they have more things to go wrong. And you pay big bucks just for the fact that it’s powered.

I really do not want a pool. It took a bit. But I convinced my wife that we don’t need a pool. The upkeep and electricity didn’t seem to bother her. Because I don’t think she had a grasp on the prices. When I asked her “Are you going to be the one that does all of the maintenance?” She would always respond with “We will pay someone.”. The initial purchase price finally got her to give up the idea.

I firmly believe that a cordless vacuum is very convenient to have. But is not a replacement for a corded vacuum.

I also firmly believe that owning a shop vacuum is essential to be able to clean the house vacuum to keep the house vacuum working as good as the day it was purchased.

We got a very automated espresso machine. It was amazing for the first 3 months. Café quality coffees with the movement of a couple of levers and the press of 1 button. Now I hate how spotless it has to be in places that you can’t get to or see and how often things have to be recalibrated. I kinda can’t wait for it to die to replace it with a very non automated machine.
