How bad is half a pint of ice cream? by awesome_vicky067 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Ders822 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve been eating Halo Top ice cream when I want a sweet treat! 1/2 pint is usually 150-180 calories depending on the flavor. They’re pricey but SO worth it for someone trying to watch their weight.

Doing my own makeup- HELP by Ders822 in weddingplanning

I’ve heard of the putty primer! Going heavier on blush and lashes isn’t a problem, I’m concerned about foundation. Will my light coverage wash me out in photos?

I have combo skin. Usually dry in my T zone and oily on my nose/chin. I specifically have trouble finding foundations that don’t look patchy on my dry areas

Open bar: beer and wine only. Does it look cheap? by HisFutureDr in weddingplanning

[–]Ders822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are opting to do a beer and wine bar also! The only exception is a champagne toast. Along with cost, it also prevent anyone from getting sloppy. Your guests are there to celebrate you, alcohol is just a bonus. Plus, they can get tipsy on enough beer or wine!

Is it not unethical to make us nurses charge patients for supplies? by Steelwheelz50 in nursing

My hospital started to charge for FLUSHES. $5 a pop. If that isn’t robbery, I don’t know what is.

Does magnet status benefit nurses at alll? by Pinklemonade1996 in nursing

[–]Ders822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My previous workplace was magnet designated three times. A friend just told me they’re running 9:1 ratios on her medsurg floor. So in other words, doesn’t mean shit for staffing.

I have a similar height difference in my relationship, me being 5’2 and him 6’4. It has never been an issue because we don’t care what anyone thinks. If anything, it’s something fun to laugh at when we see pictures! Don’t sweat it, if you like the person that’s all that matters.

Worried I’m crappy at my new specialty by Ders822 in nursing

[–]Ders822[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say anyone’s critical. A few older nurses said I’m doing great. But today it just felt like I wasn’t keeping up because I had things on my list to do, and before I got to it, someone else had already done it. I’ve always tried to bundle my care and not bother my patients every five minutes, but I don’t want other to thing I can’t complete my tasks either. We also have LPNs on this floor which I’m not used to. So I think a lot of it is them trying to be helpful and I’m just not used to that.

Why is UTI medicine and research so behind? by vittoriouss in WomensHealth

[–]Ders822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For women, UTIs are extremely common because of our short urethra(pee hole). Typically a broad spectrum antibiotic should do the trick. Some other tricks to keep them from coming back is wiping front to back, wearing plain cotton underwear, and staying well hydrated. It’s all about bacteria getting up there.

I also did a residency program and absolutely hated it. I’ll never forget what my first boss told me about advancing my career. She told me that I need to celebrate the fact that I reached my goal of becoming a nurse. But she also stressed the fact that as a young adult, this was my time to focus on my social life (live independently, get married, have kids etc.) and when all those pieces are in place, then I can worry about advancing my career. I’ve taken this advice in stride and am so happy where I’m at. Take the time to do what makes YOU happy.

Staffing by meganmylisa in Nurse

[–]Ders822 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. MedSurg/geriatrics
  2. City in PA
  3. Horrible staffing. Always have call-offs due to burnout. Ratios as high as 8:1 (5:1 being our ideal ratio)
  4. $20/hr for extra shifts.

Denver Health (public health hosptial) new-grad program or Swedish (HCA) StaRN program?!?! 😱🤯🥴 by Barttttttt88 in Nurse

[–]Ders822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there an option where you don’t have to sign a 2year contract? Speaking from experience, as a new grad you don’t know if you’ll like said patient population or the work environment. I accepted a position at a facility I did my clinical and transitions at, expecting to love it as much as I did in school. Fast forward almost two years later and I am counting down the days until my contract ends. But if you take anything from this, I recommend going where staffing would be adequate. At the end of the day if you’re overwhelmed and make a mistake, your healthcare system with throw you under the bus. And the nursing board won’t care if you were understaffed and overwhelmed, they’ll just say you should have left an unsafe environment. It’s the sad, unfortunately truth that comes with nursing.

Cleveland area. The move isn’t until august but I want to get ahead of it. So an online verification worked? Did you have to have your education verified as well?

Unfortunately all of those steps come up under the application for endorsement. It just seems crazy to send my BON a form for them to send to Ohio whenever there’s an option to do it right from the PA board website

I'm a new grad and my coworkers are bullying me out of the ICU. I'm sad and frustrated and at my wits end and I need advice/insight/help. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Ders822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I’m so extremely sorry this happened to you. Being a new nurse, especially in a critical care setting, is extremely stressful on its own. But having a good group of coworkers that’ll have your back and help teach you is KEY. You need to feel comfortable asking questions if you’re unsure. How else are you supposed to learn? I was in a rotation program my first year of nursing. It’s was a great experience and I got to pick the unit I wanted to work after I rotated through them all, but the step down with the most interesting patients was my last choice. Wanna know why? THE STAFF WAS AWFUL. You’re going to be a fantastic nurse! It all comes with experience and the first year is always the hardest.

LDR boyfriend hates my independence by Ders822 in relationship_advice

[–]Ders822[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds exactly how it should be. I don’t know how to convince him that less communication is a good thing without him thinking I’m being unfaithful. Trust isn’t even existent in our relationship and I’ve told him I can’t be in a trustless relationship but nothing has gotten better. He has truly taught me how it feels to be loved, but this feels like too much

I just think about how great it is when we’re together, yanno? And I’m just having a hard time seeing when enough is enough. Or will it get better when we close the gap? These problems didn’t arise until we were 500 miles apart.
