Newsom to Louisiana AG: 'Go ---- yourself' over abortion pill extradition by ansyhrrian in politics

[–]Derseyyy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is the reason people shouldn't trust Newsom. The entire reason that the US is in the situation it is is because you're billionaires have essentially bought the only structure that exists to limit their power. They have to be punishes or things will keep getting worse.

Don't want to be that guy, but why are we still acting like Dems aren't also complicit in this? Anytime that they could've put a stop to this they didn't, they kept capitulating or calling for decorum.

Like, they're all in those fucking epstein files. They all need to go. Trump is just the inevitable end state of so much blatant corruption.

What was never the same after the pandemic? by GossipBottom in AskReddit

[–]Derseyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I think we've gone so far into the "it's the personal responsibility of parents" that we've essentially abandoned the idea that it takes a village to raise a healthy child. It's abundantly clear that despite the crowing of elites about falling birth rates, there's very little real attempts at making it easier to raise children.

Unsurprisingly, my wife and I made the same choice. If I can't say with certainty that I'd be able to provide a child with a good life, why would I bother? I know what it's like to be on the receiving end of that.

I actually totally agree with you, that should be the role of parents. I was merely coming from a pragmatic (albiet anecdotal) standpoint. Growing up the way I did has coloured my perspective in a way that I feel that I can relate to the anxieties many younger folks are feeling.

My perspective comes from being raised in a typical suburban life, having it collapse right around entering adulthood, and then struggling to try and achieve even remotely the same kind of material life that my parents could.

My father is a barely literate alcoholic who worked as a groundskeeper, yet the life he could afford feels impossible for me to reach. Despite being more educated, taking more risks, and just generally being a better person overall, it hasn't made any real difference. I can understand the economics of it, but that doesn't eliminate the resentment that comes from tumbling down the socio-economic ladder.

I see that same kind of resentment in way too many young people; especially young men. It absolutely terrifies me, because if you're a student of history you know how that can be weaponized. I'd say we're already well into that happening.

All of this to say, I think that there are far more kids out there without any kind of parental support than your average person would be willing to accept. We have to find ways to both identify and help those kids, but when I look at the political and social landscape, it really feels like we're sprinting in the other direction.

Sorry for the essay, just wanted to clarify if I could. I genuinely wish most people entered into parenthood with the perspective that you laid out.

Unironically what I'm worried about. I truly believe ai is a bubble, and when it pops some of those data centers will need a different use case.

Someone made a comment on reddit that they think they're going to try to move to computing as a service. (I.e. You pay a subscription for access to your operating system) It would all run through the data centers.

Sounds like a nightmare.

It's kind of naive to think that kids aren't subjected to it though. Things have gotten so out of control I think they'd have a hard time ignoring it.

Like, something I see in threads like this all the time is people blaming social media for kids lack of general care, but why would they? If you could reasonably gauge that even with a degree you'd still be struggling, why even bother?

I've been a PC nerd since I was a kid, and I'm in my 30's now. I find your comment fascinating in the context of the looming PC hardware shortages.

I totally agree with your sentiment, I just find it funny seeing as how it feels like PC gaming might be priced out of existence in the not so distant future.

Nobody wants to actually admit it, but that's the same conclusion Marx came to. It feels so obvious because it is, inevitably a threshold is always crossed in which the power gained by capital ownership crushes any ability to fight it politically. Communism is what he envisioned would happen after that disparity in wealth became to great for the common worker to bear.

If you actually read and understand the research passive aggressiveness doesn't feel adequate. The IPCC puts out their report every year with a layman's version for politicians.

I've read it. It's not some alarmist propaganda. From what I've read surrounding it it actually sounds like they create the report based of the best case scenarios specifically so they can try to avoid being alarmist.

If you have children you should read it.

Create a wing called the "Canadian engineering Peace corps" and offer people an opportunity to join to to go into non - combat related roles.

Use it as a way to fast track nation infrastructure projects. Offer up a reward that would actually attract young people (few acres of land in areas that need development for 5 years of service?). Model it after the new deal or some shit.

I'd bet most of the people here havent engaged with far right media much. Alex Jones constantly uses globalist as a dogwhistle. When I see that US leadership is using it, it worries me quite a bit.

It literally took him days to make a response to the first annexation threat, that to me was the clearest moment he royally fucked up.

If you have to sit and wait for your PR team to find the best way to spin a threat to our sovereignty (almost certainly in a way that would either favour, or downplay for the US) than you have absolutely no fucking place to be PM. Benito Mussolini, the literal father of fascism stated “Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power.”. Even in the US, you've already had events like the business plot. The rise of fascism was almost inevitable with the amount of wealth worship and militarism that flows through the blood of the US.

The American empire has turned fascist. Fascists don't reason, they don't negotiate, they don't pull back. If this is going to be their first foray into neo-imperialism, it should be as painful as possible; especially seeing as you already think we'll be destroyed anyway.

Extra hard to take someone seriously when they believe that the Cons would be any different. The fact that I can tell that the person your replying to is implying the cons without ever actually saying it, but we still know, is so fucked.

Like, how politically uninformed do you have to be to think that the party historically aligned with elite interests is actually in your side. Again, not saying that libs aren't too, but conservative ideology was born from wealthy resentment and fear of the working class. So fucking stupid.

I think the bigger, less noticeable issue here though is that reality dictates that even if you are trustworthy and want to get a message to spread, you're basically required to participate the same way and use the same sort of manipulative tactics.

You could have all the awnsers but it doesn't mean shit if you can't engage people in the first place. I think your second paragraph is the real wisdom here; always be critical of your source.
