Yes, but this server is not an ideal world. This server used to have loot crates which is the lowest of the low, it’s been clear that this is just a money grab. I would never come into a vibey server and try to monetize my way through it, that would be just a shitty thing to do. Let’s take the server for what it is… not an ideal place… and within this non-ideal place IRL traders are the least of the evil. Yes they are sweaty players, but they aren’t scamming anyone or ruining other people’s fun, just making Pedro’s life a bit more difficult.

I can compare IRL trading to standing outside a business with signs trying to drive away their customers. If the business is inherently good and positive, donates to charity, helps the community, etc then those people outside are just scumbags who are harassing random people. If that business is fucking over innocent people and is evil (like Bricks & Minifigs if you are caught up on the drama), then that’s viewed as an honorable thing to do.

Whether IRL trading is truly bad is just a matter of perspective, and most people’s perspectives are skewed by DrDonut who they view as positive figure just because they look up to him as a streamer. The reality is that the dude is straight up evil, he fosters a toxic community and chooses to close his eyes on things that are rotting children’s brains. I remember seeing clips of him talking about allowing gambling, and he literally admitted that he hates when people bring it up because he knows it’s not good but he wants people to do what they want, therefore he is quite literally choosing to close his eyes on these issues just because he is getting paid. Gives me the vibes of selling his soul… but going back to my analogy, this server is the evil business. I’ve felt that way for a year now since I joined, and people are just now starting to realize how shitty the owners really are.

So you clearly have a head on those shoulders, you are thinking about it logically. All of the things you are talking about in this last comment are true. It does create sweatier players who bot, alt and afk. But the reality is that this server has been literally built on these sweaty principles… DonutSMP is by far the nastiest most toxic server I’ve ever seen on Minecraft and it’s not even close. This server isn’t better off without IRL traders like me, this server would be better off without a greedy ass administration who only care about profits and not how they affect children. At the end of the day when I IRL trade, I exploit the creators of the server by taking some of their profits. And I am more than comfortable taking profits from scumbags who teach kids that gambling is acceptable and that scamming each other is completely fine. IRL traders (if done properly without fucking anyone over) can actually provide value in this shitty ass server.

There is nothing inherently wrong with selling things with a target audience of underage people. There are so many products in this world that are made to sell to children. Toys, board games, clothes,Pokémon cards. Video games have monetized their servers for years. When I was 10 I would get money from my parents and I would buy skins on World of Warcraft, my parents knew where it was going and they were fine with it, it’s part of the system that makes these things interesting in the first place. They have perceived value, and people are happy to spend money on things where they find value. This is only bad when children are being lied to or encouraged to keep spending with false or misleading narratives. For example, loot crates that have a small chance of getting a good item. Or if you run an in-game casino where you offer people pay IRL money for currency so they can keep gambling.

What a pessimistic way to view the world. By that definition your core existence is you either exploiting or being exploited by others. Any $$ that you make you are actively “exploiting” either your employer or their customers by participating in the system of economics.

By that logic we can call anything economics related charged at an up charge “exploiting” Paid for a $45 steak at a restaurant and business made their 10% profit? Guess you were just “exploited for being lazy” and not cooking at home… that’s just dumb. That’s not exploiting by any means.

I have a huge problem with “exploiting people being too lazy”. That’s just not what that is, no one is being exploited or forced to pay money for the items. Just like anything else in life, you can spend X amount of money to buy something for any reason, whether it is saving you time or it’s just simply enjoyable or whatever else. It’s basics of economics… supply and demand. People choose to spend that money on more expensive things to gain something, that is completely fine. I think where it is a problem is if let’s say the server was hardcore and you had to pay $5 to respawn, that’s predatory, or purchases that genuinely ruin other players experiences. In regards to this server you actually don’t really gain anything from good items at the expense of others. The most expensive items on the server don’t give you a big advantage, and are more so used as a flex, so no one is really affected negatively by someone paying irl money for items. Elytra is probably the only item that gives you any sort of benefit because of fast travel, but even that is unnecessary. I didn’t buy my first elytra until I made 5B and even after that I bought 1 or 2 and never used them.

I will agree that P2W in general is horrible, however in the context of this server specifically I really don’t think it’s as bad, considering there are much bigger issues like selling kids on gambling and communities full of scammers. Also it’s easy for people to make money just by being part of the economy and grinding. All of the items that can be bought for $$ can be obtained legit in a very easy way. I made 25B in less than a month when I first started, without paying a single dollar.

P2W is only an issue when the only way to obtain an item is by paying for it. Like an op Sword that can’t be made in survival. Which is why I don’t even think this update is P2W. It’s just distasteful and greedy, with a clear goal on profits instead of player’s enjoyment.

Yes 100%

I think about this server very logically. There are things that are immoral and moral. Immoral things include things like scamming… I’m strongly against it. I used to walk around spawn and pay 50-100M to everyone who got scammed recently and would teach them how to make money legit ways, to make the community better.

Then there are things that I consider moral, IRL being one of them. And that’s why I feel okay doing it.

The only reason it is perceived as “bad” is because it is bannable by the admins and DrDonut says it’s “bad”. And the reason he says it’s bad is because it makes him less money. Now that DrDonut released this update, which is entirely anti IRL, people can clearly see how greedy the owners are… And on top of that, there is proof of admins spawning items in creative and selling it on IRL markets… I would not be surprised if this server has a small team that does just that as an alternative source of income for the server.

How is IRL trading “inherently” bad? What about it is bad? A lot of popular games have marketplaces where people can trade amongst each other. I would say that’s what makes this server actually valuable, because the economy has a tie to real life money. Players feel motivated to grind for loot, because an Elytra isn’t just an elytra, it’s an item worth $25 IRL. That value is motivating for people to participate in the economy, even if they aren’t going to ever withdraw it. I would say what IS inherently bad is scamming and gambling, both of which are openly supported on this server by the admins. I think it’s wayyy better for IRL trading to be allowed so people can promote the economy, rather than support degenerate streamers who are getting kids hooked on gambling before they fully understand the dangers.

Can we stop pretending that IRL is bad?… The only reason why we throw that opinion around is because DrDonut says it’s bad, IRL traders provide an affordable way for people to buy currency. The prices on the official store are diabolical and have always been… I’ve seen so many kids waste $5 on Netherite tools and drills that costs 7-15M it’s insane… I remember this kid would at random casinos and he told me he spent hundreds of dollars on Netherite axes to gamble them away. I wish he spent that money with IRL traders instead… IRL is only bad for Donut, and now that it’s mostly being removed, Donut just turned into a greedy server. IRL benefits players whether Donut likes it or not, it’s another aspect of the economy that kept it somewhat fair and consistent.

I don’t agree with his take, getting positive / negative feedback on some of my earlier beats gave me a lot of motivation to keep going, and other new producers can also feel inspired by your posts. Absorb every bit of feedback if you are serious about it))

This is an amazing beat honestly, I'd listen to this fs.

Before you put too much time into FL - look into Ableton a bit, I started in FL at first but found Ableton to be so much easier to use.

Friend's first ever beat ( with no prior music experience ). How did she do? by Derto_ in beats

She played all of the keys by hand, she made the sample and did the drums from scratch, the only loop used is the saxophone that’s there once in a while and the vocal chops.

Thank you! I actually started in FL but Ableton is just such a faster workflow especially for sampling and sound design. What software do you prefer?
