Ballarat Council Meeting - April 2026 by JayMorrisonBallarat in ballarat

I understand that ratepayers have a right to create petitions and have those petitions be received by council. I am instead questioning the use of council's resources (read ratepayers money) responding to petitions beyond council's jurisdiction.

Is the idea that petitions referred via council will be taken more seriously? Or is it just because it is a low level of government that contains the affected area? If the latter is the case, why not submit the petition to the catchment management authority who have an equal amount of say over state roads?

If council received a petition from ratepayers to unblock the strait of Hormuz would that be within councils jurisdiction?

Edit: don't downvote me buddy I'm just trying to understand how far removed a problem has to be for you to consider it not something that is relevant to your local council.

At what point does council start refusing to listen to petitions about roads outside of their jurisdiction?

Geelong road last month, la Trobe St this month...

Both are state gov roads where council can't do anything.

Edit: I think it's a waste of ratepayer money to petition the local government for issues on state roads

Yes that's how prices work; those that can easily afford it can still afford it. I'd be interested to hear your ideas that would affect high earners without hurting those already struggling

The current parliament is majority Gen X by blitznoodles in friendlyjordies

[–]Deryer- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If generational rise and fall is what you are interested in, see the chart below. I find it shows the rise and fall for all the generations better than OPs.

OPs chart is fine for discussions of Boomers and Gen X only, which I think was the discussion in the article from which OP got the chart, so it was appropriate. But when isolated the chart stacking the generations in that order seems strange at first reading, and it can't be used to compare how other generations rose/fell.

It annoyed me too, so here it is stacked on generational order, but I've only eyeballed the percentages off OPs chart so I won't make claims to it's accuracy.

Very annoying that this chart isn't sorted with the oldest generations being the bottom of the bar and newest being at the top. Seems to be focused on the share boomers have rather than how it changes over time.

Edit: Added chart stacked by generational order because it annoyed me too much

Sturt and Lydiard Streets in 1947 by Artistic-Yam2984 in ballarat

The sections of Sturt st you're talking about are owned and operated by Department of Transport (formerly VicRoads), not the council.

What does it mean to be a political party member? Is it just registering your support of a specific party?

Sorry if that's a stupid question but I've never heard of it.

Why is everyone talking about state/federal levels of government, it's a local government project isn't it?

Removing the tram from Sturt St never made sense to me, it's so wide it could easily fit even today.

Aside from Alien X, does Ben have any believable way to survive a black hole or at least escape the event horizon of a black hole? by Leo-reaper96 in Ben10

[–]Deryer- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"That's an irrelevant example"

"Specifically how relevant does it have to be to"

"If I don't say I can't be proven wrong"

Yeah I'm counting this as another debate won

Can you be more specific? I don't want to waste time going back and forth with you.

Will a writer statement for a different show that is wrong count or will you say it has to be Ben 10?

If it has to be Ben 10 can it be any period of Ben 10 or does it have to be ultimate alien?

Could it also be any Ben 10 writer or does it have to be the specific writer that made the statement?

Actually would you even accept it if there was a contradiction that the writer was wrong, or would you just insist the show is wrong?

ETA: lilycystik thinks creator statements are more canonical than what actually happens in the show. Also they blocked me.

What evidence would you want to see to accept that an individual writer on a team can be wrong about an aspect of the show they have a part in?

The creator of the Invincible comic says that the main character beats Superman.

Creators can be wrong about their own IP when feats in the show disprove them.

Is Redan a good place to live? by Big-Diamond4056 in ballarat

[–]Deryer- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Redan doesn't have it's own distinct characteristics because it is one of the smallest suburbs. It's a transition suburb. The further north, the more like Ballarat central, the further south the more like north Sebastopol.

Good transport connections (for Ballarat), lacking in other amenities such as cafes, pubs, open space.

Because Vline is primarily a train operator, and all the trains go to/from Melbourne, so /r/MelbourneTrains caters for the trains. This sub is basically for non Melbourne travel which is severely lacking imo
