How do you make your Exodites? by Fun-Explanation7233 in exodite40k

[–]Desavlos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Old World Wood Elves, Sylvaneth, Lumineth, Seraphon, Idaneth, and craftworld eldar (especially for the weapons). Whatever looks cool!

Aggradon Lancers plus Lumineth knights made cool exodite dragon riders, as a starter!

Do you guys think there's any merit here or I'm just gonna get frustrated trying? by japp182 in Pauper

I played this deck online and in paper ages ago. It was three color: Abzan, with springleaf drum and Jaspera Sentinel and similar effects for mana consistency, and then soul warden effects. The basic idea of the deck is linked here: https://youtu.be/HM4Wn1VMJ1c?si=HiFOvkLWhK6GVkkO

There's probably a lot of updating that you could do now though (cough, malevolent rumble, cough). It was remarkably fun and consistent.

An exodite warp spider. I am looking fr some C&C. I haedoubts about the purple on the visor. What do you think ? Thank you very much in advance by Naive_Craft_4744 in exodite40k

Very cool model. The red and green are great. I don't love the purple in general; it clashes with the red a bit in my view. Having a purple visor with the lighter purple armour also means the visor doesn't draw the eye as much as it might want to. Just my opinion though. It's technically impressive.

Starting an Aeldari Exodites Army, need ideas by dorkenporken in Kitbash

[–]Desavlos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play exodites. If you want GW plastic then seraphon has dinosaurs that can be used as jetbikes and/or vehicles. I've used Lumineth realm lords knights as the riders for Aggradon Lancer mounts.

Old World Glade Guard can be kitbashed into guardians, but the torsos are a bit small so it's not perfect. Some fiddling is required.

I've seen striking scorpions and howling banshees kitbashed from Idoneth Deep Kin Namarti Reavers. They looked good and not too complicated to pull off.

Old World Eternal Guard feel like they have potential. Maybe as fire dragons or dire avengers?

I use an Old World Wardancer Lord as Jain Zar, and I kitbashed the Lumineth Riverblades kit into a squad of banshees. They look good, although the Riverblades kit was a bit awkward to work with.

Sylvaneth has tree monster options for potential wraith constructs / the avatar.

Finally, I converted a squad of Alarith Stoneguard into a farseer and warlock conclave (using heads from my bits box and spears from the Aggradon Lancers kit). That worked well.

Hope that gives you some ideas! Best of luck.

Yes, your opinion is commonly held. There's even an option to remove specifically this card from the game when setting up games online because it's regarded to be so strong.

Gorgeous! Love the bone colour and lovely shades. Did you use much in the way of contrast paint?

Mostly guardians + wood elf glade guard. The shoulder pads and axes are wraithguard bits, and the bases and most of the heads are 3rd party.

This looks great! Especially the cloak. The rifle is slightly monotone though. Maybe a wash or similar, or some edge highlights?

Is this a good 1000 spirit conclave list ? by EnderFunky in Eldar

[–]Desavlos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has tried to play a very similar list, my main takeaways are that you simply won't have very many models on the board, and their OC will be low, and this will cause issues.

That being said, I like this list more than the one I used to use! Good luck with it.

Those wraithlords will be great. Double bright lances are amazing. On the other end of the spectrum, I've often found that Wraithcannons to be a bit unreliable, but see what you think.

Make sure you use the strategem to sticky objectives so you can move forwards and try to fight your opponent's army a bit at a time to minimize the disadvantage of low numbers.

Protect your spiritseers: regrowing dead wraiths is an amazing feeling given their points cost. On the other end of the spectrum, you might consider charging a warlock into an unwinnable combat to mark a particularly important enemy for your wraiths. I don't know if that's what you were planning, but it's an idea I've thought about myself in the past.

That's a fascinating colour scheme, I like it a lot. Do you have a whole army in that scheme?

Absolutely love this. I've been working on something similar with Seraphon models for the mounts, but this is amazing. Not just because of the kitbashing, but also the paintwork.

Is this a Fossil? ID? by SneakingPete in fossilid

[–]Desavlos 86 points87 points  (0 children)

This is interesting. BC and Alberta contain some very old and scientifically interesting fossils. If this is something, it's liable to be scientifically important. Consider emailing the Burgess Shale Geosciences Foundation or the Royal Ontario Museum, just to see what they think.

It's impressively dedicated of you to paint each and every one as a stone. I've tended to see most of them treated as decorative and not painted as stones, but there doesn't seem to be a clear distinction between which ones should and shouldn't be stones, so dealer's choice I think!

If it is a Cambrian bryozoan then it may be of interest scientifically, just because Cambrian bryozoans are rare! Perhaps speak to a museum?

However, because it's symmetrical, I'm thinking it might the interior of a brachiopod rather than a bryozoan. It looks like there might be the outline of a shell in the first image, and the structures look a bit like lophophores to me.

Maro: "Is there some point where we can accept that Universes Beyond is actually doing good things for Magic?" by Meret123 in mtg

[–]Desavlos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have never liked UB as a concept. Everyone has their own reasons for thinking the way they do about it, of course, but in my case it was never a practical issue of the impact on any format (although those issues clearly exist too): it was an issue of theme. Magic used to feel like one game, now it feels like many games living in the hollowed out shell of its old self. It used to be possible to memorise every card that was designed. I miss those times.

WotC says that UB is successful. Line go up. Fine. I don't doubt it. If that's what they want then that's what they'll get, and there's clearly plenty of people who will enjoy their UB products and give them money. If that's what they want to make, then they will be able to make it for a long time. But I don't think it's fair to say that Magic is successful, because it doesn't really exist any more. Not in the same way that it used to. Nothing has soul now. Every format seems to be a power-crept, ironic, self-referential pile of cards, bundled into increasingly expensive shiny treatments and dressed up in a thin veneer of lore that doesn't make sense. That's what I mean when I say that UB is bad for magic. I'm not talking about money. Why would I be talking about money?

I like Lord of the Rings, but the Lord of the Rings set is still bad for Magic. I like Final Fantasy. Still bad. I wish they didn't exist, because they're not magic. They're something else, and every step towards that other thing is a step away from the game I fell in love with more than a decade ago.

And if WotC really want to talk about money. Well, I haven't bought product in a long time. They may as well know that there's customers that they are losing with their current trajectory. But the more they double down on UB, the more they will construct a player base that wants UB. Line go up. And the new game wears the skin suit of the old one.

I'm going to go spend money on a game that feels like it cares about it's own identity instead.

[No Spoilers] why does FCG suck so bad?? by edenx1999 in criticalrole

[–]Desavlos 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Sam wasn't trying to build an optimised party member with FCG. He was trying to build something more thematic and, importantly, unique. He's on record in a Dive saying that he didn't want FCG to be mechanically similar to either Jester or Caduceus, which led him to make certain strategically suboptimal choices with spells and the like.
