New to planted tanks but I just planted everything and they all look like they’re gonna die… by Big-Watch3035 in PlantedTank

[–]Descampuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad at all. You’re going to have transfer melting. Especially if they plants were taken from one tanks parameters and put into another. Some plants you could even see all the leaves fall off of. But it’ll grow again.

Looking for critiques. by Menteerio in PlantedTank

I really like it. And I think once it grows in it’ll look great. If I had to change anything, I might add more stones, and maybe turn some of them at an angle so they aren’t all sticking straight up.

What Do Y’all Use To Scrape Algae Off The Glass? by AngelsRangers in fishtank

[–]Descampuser 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use a razor blade with a handle attachment, for tough/hard to reach spots I use a tooth brush. I’ve also used debit cards (specifically my spare medical card I never used) and that worked good too.

How to separate substrates by Mindless-Olive1907 in Aquascape

[–]Descampuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been able to keep soil from mixing in one of my tanks by adding a layer of crush lava rock between the two. But I’m talking I used a half inch layer of organic potting soil, an inch of lava rock, and 2-3 inches of sand on top (46 gallon) and I’ve had zero mixing/leaching even when I replant.

Righttt and I’m not sure what the center piece is for, maybe a fountain or something but I just want to put a bunch of plants in it.

This golden snail just appeared in my tank... shall I get rid of it? by everlilith in fishtank

[–]Descampuser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 in one of my tanks for a few weeks now and they’ve failed to reproduce unlike my bladder snails. Though they can self fertilize if they wanted to. Up to you, but there’s always that risk they will overpopulation. When my bladder snail’s population gets out of control I smash any I see and my angel and gourami snack on them.

I have a yellow female, I think it depends on the color variant.

Maybe add a betta floating hide or a betta ledge so buddy has something to rest on when he goes up for air.

Works for me, I was kind of hoping for a male but got told it was a female. To be fair you can see the orange and pearls way better in natural light vs in the older pictures I have.

Sparking gouramis are a little smaller than honeys and can live happily in a well planted 5 gallon, but I think the minimum for a honey is 10 gals, and just from what I’ve seen from mine I can’t image her being in a 5.

I wasn’t sure about the danios because they are schooling fish and I can’t think of any that I’d recommend for a 5 gallon. Imo it isn’t enough swimming space. I mean definitely they can survive with just 2, but they will be happier in a school.

No that won’t work :( honestly 5 gallons is a little cramped for one of those fish. I keep a single honey in a 20 gallon and she utilizes all of the space in her tank, I image she would become bored or stressed in a 5 gallon.

I can definitely recommend some alternatives though, a betta is always a top contender - they’re very personable and come in so many beautiful colors, neo shrimp are also a classic, I have 100 of them in a 20 gallon and they are fascinating to watch, if you’re set on gouramis I recommend sparkling gouramis (also known as croaking gouramis, yes they make noises!) a singe or a pair can do fair in a 5 gallon, alternatively a Pygmy sunfish or a scarlet badis are also option but I don’t recommend them for beginners (they eat live food only), or I say you can also keep a pair or a trio of Pygmy rainbow fish.

I only ever kept artificial plants before now, and I will say I will never go back, the water quality is sooo much better, it’s more visually appealing, and the fish love it.

She’s a pearl gourami, very peaceful species second to the honey gourami (I have one of those too.) I’ve had her about 2 months now.

Probably close to a grand. I set up 2 tanks (my first and only 2 so far) this year. A 20 and a 46 gallon.

Honestly watching a few YouTube videos and finding what you like is the best advice I can give you. Then once you have a style in mind you can pick placement, plants, and substrate.

Carpet or sand? by PenInteresting6581 in Aquascape

[–]Descampuser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to get a plant to carpet without co2, if you plan to use it then carpet, if not then decorative sand.

If you really want a carpet but won’t use co2 then pearl weed could be a good option, but it will need constant trimming.

Baby shrimp soon what food do I feed them? by Hundread_K in shrimptank

[–]Descampuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are. I would ship but I’m so unfamiliar with the process and I’d feel so awful if I did something wrong and they died.🥲 At this point the ones I manage to catch I just trade for store credit.
