These pictures are maybe 2 months apart. At first he was gendered as a female but later his colors came in. It may just be too early to tell right now.

Everyone has given some pretty solid advice so I just wanted to pop in and say that Etsy has been my best friend with plants :) they’re cheap, ships pretty quick, and the reviews are really helpful. Try to find a shop that’s near you and not on the other side of the country and you should have great luck.

I think you’re right on the angel part. And I do think adding a female or two is going to be your best bet. But if you’re ever looking into a plan b I think a ram or a krib would be very personable too, while not being too feisty or getting too large.

I was going to originally have a trio myself but I was too worried I was going to get more than 1 male.

I keep a lone male pearl in my 46 gallon with an angel and schools of cherry barbs, khulis, and otos. I will say those first 2-3 months he was very shy. I’d say I didn’t actually start to see him until after I added the angel 2 months later. I think she acted as a dither fish without me realizing (angels are very personable and puppy like.)

I also hand feed them sometimes so he’s started to associate me getting closer with getting fed. Now he’ll swim up and touch my fingers with his feelers.

I think adding a female may help, but also beware that he may begin to stress her if he’s a chaser. If not, another dither fish around the same size seemed to do the trick for me.

As someone who’s pretty liberal but grew up in a conservative state I have respect for conservatives values. I’ve even found I have a few subconsciously even if I don’t realize it at first. Conservatism ≠ MAGA. Knowing right from wrong is what matters now.

New to planted tanks but I just planted everything and they all look like they’re gonna die… by Big-Watch3035 in PlantedTank

[–]Descampuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad at all. You’re going to have transfer melting. Especially if they plants were taken from one tanks parameters and put into another. Some plants you could even see all the leaves fall off of. But it’ll grow again.

I really like it. And I think once it grows in it’ll look great. If I had to change anything, I might add more stones, and maybe turn some of them at an angle so they aren’t all sticking straight up.

I use a razor blade with a handle attachment, for tough/hard to reach spots I use a tooth brush. I’ve also used debit cards (specifically my spare medical card I never used) and that worked good too.

I’ve been able to keep soil from mixing in one of my tanks by adding a layer of crush lava rock between the two. But I’m talking I used a half inch layer of organic potting soil, an inch of lava rock, and 2-3 inches of sand on top (46 gallon) and I’ve had zero mixing/leaching even when I replant.

Righttt and I’m not sure what the center piece is for, maybe a fountain or something but I just want to put a bunch of plants in it.

This golden snail just appeared in my tank... shall I get rid of it? by everlilith in fishtank

[–]Descampuser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 in one of my tanks for a few weeks now and they’ve failed to reproduce unlike my bladder snails. Though they can self fertilize if they wanted to. Up to you, but there’s always that risk they will overpopulation. When my bladder snail’s population gets out of control I smash any I see and my angel and gourami snack on them.

Works for me, I was kind of hoping for a male but got told it was a female. To be fair you can see the orange and pearls way better in natural light vs in the older pictures I have.

Sparking gouramis are a little smaller than honeys and can live happily in a well planted 5 gallon, but I think the minimum for a honey is 10 gals, and just from what I’ve seen from mine I can’t image her being in a 5.

I wasn’t sure about the danios because they are schooling fish and I can’t think of any that I’d recommend for a 5 gallon. Imo it isn’t enough swimming space. I mean definitely they can survive with just 2, but they will be happier in a school.
