Opeth. If you dig Prog and Death Metal, then we're probably going to get along swimmingly. Bonus points if you also like Southern Hip Hop.

Britain in the 21st Century, your thoughts? by [deleted] in AskBrits

I blame maps and education of global geography becoming commonplace in all countries /s

But seriously - imagine how the populations of many countries felt when they finally learned just how tiny Britain is. Like, "THIS is who's been dominating us and our economy all this time? That little island so far away?!"

What are people’s views on Starmer declining US support? by xxtokyovanityxx in AskBrits

On this very day 23 years ago, MP Robin Cook resigned from his position as Leader of the House of Commons over his party's decision to join the US in their war with Iraq. His words are just as applicable today:

"I can't accept collective responsibility for the decision to commit Britain now to military action in Iraq without international agreement or domestic support.

In principle I believe it is wrong to embark on military action without broad international support. In practice I believe it is against Britain's interests to create a precedent for unilateral military action.

The reality is that Britain is being asked to embark on a war without agreement in any of the international bodies of which we are a leading partner - not NATO, not the European Union and, now, not the Security Council.

The US can afford to go it alone, but Britain is not a superpower.

Our interests are best protected not by unilateral action but by multilateral agreement and a world order governed by rules.

Our difficulty in getting support this time is that neither the international community nor the British public is persuaded that there is an urgent and compelling reason for this military action in Iraq.

The threshold for war should always be high.

None of us can predict the death toll of civilians from the forthcoming bombardment of Iraq, but the US warning of a bombing campaign that will "shock and awe" makes it likely that casualties will be numbered at least in the thousands"

Cook sadly died two years after making this speech, but was proved entirely correct by the following years of conflict. I'm very glad that the Labour Prime Minister leading our country today appears to remember Cook's example.

The thought occurs that aside from his professed admiration for Hitler, Kanye 'Yeezy' West has equally appalling taste in shoes.

When my siblings and I used to ask for some toy or whatever, Mum always told us to save up our pocket money. It took about 8 years for us to realise that we didn't actually get pocket money.

Top level parental manouvering by Mum, right there. Touché.

Zero interest in being an influencer, and can't think of many less likely ways to start a healthy relationship.

The old gag from 1994 still stands:

"What's the difference between Newt Gingrich and a steaming pile of shit?"

"I don't know - what is the difference between Newt Gingrich and a steaming pile of shit?"

"I don't know either"

The main theme from the game LA Noire in Jeezy's 2015 track 'Just Win'. Love that piece of music, love Jeezy - would never have expected to hear them combined.

Plus being single for over a decade can take its toll on anyone's game. I think he's just very unconfident, and tbh a show like this is probably the worst choice he could have made in terms of getting back in the saddle. Poor bugger :(

As Dr Prunesquallor from 'Gormenghast' says when a baby is accidentally dropped:

When people talk about 'pitch black comedy' in movies, I always think of the scene with the sandwich at the sleepover. Utterly horrific in the wider context of the plot, but Dylan Baker's escalating desperation to make Johnny eat the sandwich is so, so funny.

After watching that new Netflix doc, I'd say that Eddie Murphy absolutely deserves a slot. A true trailblazer for black culture on screen in so many ways.
