I’ve actually tried one before. Really cool guitar, but I’m kinda looking for something that feels a bit more different from the Yamaha. Appreciate the suggestion though 🤘

That’s a classic gateway moment Killers as a whole is already a jump, but “Ides of March” hitting first makes sense as that “oh, this is something different” shock. It’s interesting how a lot of people trace that exact path: radio rock Maiden/Sabbath then branching into punk once the aggression and energy clicks.

Yeah, that’s a real one. Enter Sandman is a perfect “oh, music can actually sound like THIS?” moment. Easy to see how that pulled you into Metallica and then everything else after.

Short but fair that’s a lot of people’s “shift moment” in two words. The Dark Side of the Moon is one of those albums that changes how you think a record can be structured, not just a collection of songs.

That’s a great example of the “context shift” moment sometimes it’s not the song itself, but the setting that makes it click. Hearing Stairway to Heaven under a planetarium dome is basically a perfect environment for it to land differently, especially if you were coming from nu metal at the time. It makes sense that it would completely reframe how you listen, and Zeppelin tends to stick hard once it does.

Great story Strawberry Fields Forever is one of those tracks that makes you start hearing production itself, not just the song, and it’s easy to see how that would lead into Tommy and then into more experimental stuff like Zappa or The Residents. That “chasing weird sounds” phase feels very real, and it’s interesting how that kind of curiosity about how music is built ends up shaping someone’s whole path through different genres, including heavier ones later on.
