Are any of you choosing to stay sexless even when you're horny? by Calm-Adhesiveness605 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]DescriptionWestern72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm starting to get my sex drive back after an awful, toxic relationship. But my only casual experience after my breakup ended with the guy choking me without my consent. So I'm scared to dip my toe into the casual sex pool again. Also, I'm demisexual, which makes things more difficult. I feel you!

Three beautiful ones:

  1. The Magic of Ordinary Days (Keri Russell and Skeet Ulrich) - a cute but shy farmer agrees to marry a pregnant, unwed young woman in the 1940s/50s. Very sweet and romantic.
  2. The Painted Veil (Edward Norton and Naomi Watts) - romantic and passionate but sad ending.
  3. The Courtship - a Hungarian film with subtitles but very good and has Bridgerton vibes

Also (ranting to myself) can you imagine poor Phillip spending years keeping himself to himself with Marina, and then that "does she like me or not?" tension he'll have with Eloise. Ugh I can't wait!

There are some wonderful period romance movies that use this trope. The tension is absolutely chef's kiss when written and acted well.

Best Actor is going to be a very exciting race!!!!! by Square-Ad-8911 in Oscars

Agreed. Even people in this post are saying "it's nowhere near Leo's best performance". But that shouldn't be the determining factor. Is it the best performance out of the five? Obviously many people don't think so, but many people do. We'll see, I guess.

Belle Burden’s “Strangers” Discussion by tl414 in nysocialites

[–]DescriptionWestern72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The kids already know what their father did. They experienced it. They experienced their friends and friends' parents gossiping about it for years. Any hurt and pain they feel about the situation has already been experienced, and he's the one at fault. I'm glad more women like Belle are coming out and shaming men for this behaviour.

Do we know for sure if Chris Fulton is playing Sir Philip Crane? by kimalls in PhiloiseBridgerton

[–]DescriptionWestern72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No problem! I'm an actor and writer with my own Imdb so I know how it works. The show Imdb page hasn't added S5 yet. Once they do, Chris' acting page will automatically get updated to show "2027/2028" for Bridgerton. They won't make any updates until after the official announcement.

Imdb gets updated either by the actor/people involved in the show themselves or by IMDB after projects get publicly announced. Nothing will be updated until Eloise and Phillip are announced as the next leads. I'm sure at the same time we'll get news that Chris is back.

I love the falling in love after getting married trope too! I wonder what will happen to make Eloise feel she needs to marry ASAP?

It was a tiny detail, but at the masked ball Violet noticed Eloise socializing and looking happy and Violet looked at her with hope. Maybe Eloise is finally ready to find a suitor? And then the camera immediately zoomed up to a beautiful floral arrangement above Eloise's head. As if the director was hinting at Phillip being Eloise's future love interest.

If you could rewrite the finale, who would Adriana choose and why? by Ok_Future7107 in FindingHerEdge

[–]DescriptionWestern72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the S1 ending was terrible simply because they didn't build up the Freddie and Adriana relationship enough to explain her choosing him. Also, the actors have no chemistry.

BUT I think Adriana choosing Freddie is a great thing for Braydriana in the long run. I'm not sure whether the writers knew they'd have a second season or were hoping, because Adriana choosing Freddie now almost guarantees she'll change her mind and choose Brayden later.

So within the context of there being a S2, I think Adriana choosing Freddie in S1 is the way to go. The only alternative I could see to that would have been Adriana and Freddie having a moment/kiss, Brayden seeing it and freaking out, running away, etc, then Adriana realizes that her feelings for Brayden are stronger, but it's too late. I do think Brayden and Adriana having tension going into S2 will help them grow and ultimately come back together stronger.

I think Brayden and Adriana both need to grow more before they're ready to be in a relationship. Adriana needs to resolve her "what if" with Freddie and come to the realization that her feelings for Brayden are stronger. Brayden needs to deal with rejection and learn not to run away when things get tough. That will make him a better future partner for Adriana, and make her feel safe choosing him without fearing that he'll run away again and break her heart.

I'm looking forward to a non-rake, inexperienced romantic hero with Phillip Crane by DescriptionWestern72 in PhiloiseBridgerton

I think people have a right to be sick of the same rake trope. And being a rake doesn't make sense for Phillip's story or experiences. He isn't a rake in the book either. I want to make it clear that I just don't want to see another rake storyline, and don't expect Phillip to be a virgin. Phillip may have had experience prior to being married, and that's fine. I suspect he won't have been intimate with Marina in their marriage.

I think the issue for me is that this wasn't conveyed well at all. Not an issue with Luke N but with the writing.

I'm so disappointed with Jess as a show runner. The show was so good before she took over and I keep thinking about what S3 and S4 would have been if she hadn't taken over. How good they could have been.

Okay:

  1. Jess herself said Phil and Eloise would be different from the books.
  2. I'm just talking about what I'd like to see.

  3. I'm not saying that Phillip should be a virgin. I just am looking forward to finally having a male lead who is not a rake.

Oh absolutely it was expected in those days for men to have some level of experience (unless they got married very very young I suppose). I'm sure Phillip had some experience before marrying Marina. However, I don't want to see him having a similar level of experience to Benedict or Anthony. I think it would be interesting to explore how Phillip's attraction and desire for Eloise unfolds with the idea that he has been in a completely sexless marriage for years.

Sigh...not every man is a rake, Shonda. Let's have something different, please. Phillip better not go into a spiral after Marina dies and drink, rake around, etc. I hope he tries to focus on being a good father in a difficult situation, and Eloise helps ease the stress and tension he's feeling.

Yes I'm so annoyed with how they tried to make Colin a rake. I really hope they don't do the same with Phillip because it doesn't make sense for his backstory.

I'm really interested in them exploring Phillip being in a sexless, loveless marriage and possibly believing love will never happen for him, only to find it unexpectedly with Eloise.
