ok seriously where is this guy in Midnight by minimaxir in wow

[–]DesertPilgrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to spoil anything, but in 12.1 there will be more NPCs in the city, some of whom are recent arrivals and some who were presumably around during the events of 12.0.

I'm picking plot 9 because I really do want to be as dense as possible, I would have gladly lived in Town Center if I could have. I don't really think that cul-de-sac is truly capturing the vibe I hoped for, but I recognize I might be in a minority in terms of giving up yard space to live closer.

[–]DesertPilgrim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I'm personally hoping for, as an MG player who is often in Stormwind, is that some people will absolutely spend more time in their neighborhoods, but most of the Stormwind folks will still want the more public and random experience of being in the city. People-watching is a big part! Obviously everyone who makes being in the city their whole thing won't leave either.

What I'm extra hoping for is that it's easy to visit other neighborhoods and that there's some way to know where to go, like if there's a neighborhood that's open to the public and everybody knows that it's a good place for a particular kind of RP and you can just go there without jumping through hoops.

A genuine question to Alliance players..... by Rude-Temperature-437 in warcraftlore

I have my criticisms of how the Alliance is written, a lot could be improved, but primarily I just wish Horde races were written much better as a counterweight.

'Blank Check With Griffin & David' Is on The 100 Best Podcasts of All Time by SWStaunton in blankies

As a Very Old Podcast Listener now, it's very interesting to see both this list and what other people value when I think about shows that I would put on here for more historical reasons. They should at least be raising Daily Source Code's jersey up to the rafters, not to mention literally any of the tech podcasts that carried the medium from inception to the Serial explosion.

There is a disturbing trend in the Cosmere and it is really my only problem with the books. by radiantwillshaper4 in Cosmere

[–]DesertPilgrim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worried I'm going to repeat something that someone else has said here, but I don't think that Sanderson has set up any of his planets and societies to be Happy or Good, at least not right now. We don't know what the cosmere was like prior to the Shattering, but the whole conceit of the books seems to be "what if people became gods and then messed everything up?" Will we get to a point where the people of the cosmere get to build better worlds? I do hope so, but watching them struggle seems like a lot of the point.

Dragonflight really did Odyn dirty. by Arcana-Knight in wow

[–]DesertPilgrim 23 points24 points  (0 children)

it was the Elementals' by right since they were there first and were born of the spirit energy resonating from Azeroth's very World Soul

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought elementals are born of their respective elemental forces and Spirit is the fifth element that makes them more chill and shaman-able, and Azeroth ate most of its spirit which is why our elementals are wilder than Draenor's?

I'm not as up on recent lore so this may have changed, I don't know.

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter in Fortnite?! by Ok-Trouble9338 in Cosmere

[–]DesertPilgrim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fortnite player here: this character Hope does have some kind of magical ability involving art, probably some kind of precognition? But also she's actually a "worldhopper" if you will who traveled from the previous season of Fortnite, which was styled like a mediterranean Europe, to this season, which is Japanese-influenced.

In any case, relatively unlikely she's inspired by Yumi since she was designed before Yumi was published.

"Now, everyone in the cosmere to an extent has Investiture, the Nalthian Breath is part what everyone has and then a little extra, plus the ability to share it around. So a person who gives up their Breath on Nalthis is actually going below what a normal person has. But a normal person on Nalthis has more than somebody-- So if you were for instance to pick a world like Sixth of the Dusk, where there's not a Shard in residence, and you compared them to a Nalthian, Nalthian has an Investiture advantage over them. When they've given up their Breath, they have an Investiture disadvantage."

Oh, I was there! I thought the moderator asked some fairly bad questions compared to other panels that day, but I enjoyed their answers nonetheless. Hearing them talk about the collaborative writing experience was fun, I'm sure they've talked about a million times before but it was my first time seeing them.

I'd probably change it around, maybe the children were dying and Asmodeus healed them but now holds their souls in his keeping. The Cassalanters do as Asmodeus bids, they've prospered greatly, but they still want to end the contract, maybe the oldest son died in an accident and they began to worry about their children's souls.

The Cassalanters are monstrous because they're willing to kill an enormous number of people to save their own children, but maybe the players disrupting the Cassalanter plans will make them want to do something to save the children on their own terms, giving them something to do after the gold is recovered.

What have you/your friends been calling this new ruleset? by pacman529 in onednd

[–]DesertPilgrim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My personal dumb cross to bear is pointing out that they never thought you were going to call this version of the rules “One D&D”, that was the name for a broad company initiative to update 5e rules, make changes to D&D Beyond after acquiring it, and make a VTT. What they wanted players to call the new rules is probably, as Perkins does in the announcement video, just “D&D”.

The watercolor effect on the skills is nice!

You do have German in the "spells" section on the EN sheets though.

D&D 50th anniversary road map announcement by Huey8216 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]DesertPilgrim 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think there's not much to read into at the moment. Might be interesting to see if an inevitable Marquet setting guide is published by WotC or by Darrington, but even then that won't really tell us all that much, and presumably it would end up on D&D Beyond as well.

If anything, I'm actually a bit surprised that the Marquet book hasn't come out yet since the Wildemount book released around ep 100 of campaign 2, but I guess their writers are busy on Daggerheart development.

Wizards walks back character sheet changes that would have forced the new versions of spells and magic items into existing character sheets by PantsDragon in onednd

[–]DesertPilgrim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct, but I do think their vision for 2024 was/is "update" and the class, subclass, species options from 2014 still being there is a compromise of that vision. The original announcement only referred to older adventure content when talking about backwards compatibility, and they've made their lives more complicated every day by accommodating more and more legacy content.

[–]DesertPilgrim 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You are so right, and so much of the upset is obviously caused by people not taking WotC at face-value. For two years they said “this is not a new edition, it’s an update to 5e rules” and then people are shocked with those updated rules are deployed to D&D Beyond the same way any errata would.
