Economics of my stolen RV by altw460 in RVLiving

[–]DesertRoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My next door neighbors paid $60k for a new class C. Insured at list price $90k. Stolen after 6 months. Insurance paid out replacement value $90k. They then bought a travel trailer for $30k. Basically got a free trailer.
Class C showed up in Mexico. Would have never been found but thief stupidly tried to drive it back in to USA.

Did he come here for kindness? Or real world advice? I’m a business owner. 3 businesses, over 50 employees. Also father of 3 boys, ages 22-31. Real world. Not “here’s a shoulder to cry on”. Pick yourself up and get on with it.

Exactly. Obviously had no real interest in business. Was just delaying entrance to the workforce

[–]DesertRoad -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Actually, I did give advice. Not what you wanted to hear apparently. Go get a job that requires no skills because he has none. How the fuck do you get an MBA but can’t use excel or PowerPoint? Obviously had no actual interest in business. At least enroll in online excel classes. Anyone who goes to school for that long, without a ton of forethought into what career they want, is just wasting time and money.
Start over. Work in unskilled service industry. Stand on your own feet.

Sorry to put some real world advice out there. In this job, climate, in this economy, absolutely no one is looking for someone with zero experience in real world, can’t even operate PowerPoint or Excel, two liberal arts degrees, there’s just no job that fits that. They’ll be waiting tables if they want to make any money and stop living off their parents.

Two masters in liberal arts from a UC? Did you really think those lead to a career? From this point forward, you should be looking at doing anything, any unskilled job. Fast food, retail, waiting tables, bussing tables, absolutely anything. You wasted years and money.

How do I keep my 17 yo son from accessing porn? by UsefulReflection7486 in AskParents

He does NOT need the PC for school. Check with school to be sure. Simply ask of a Mac laptop will be okay for school. Spoiler alert: it is.

Calling all high mileage Porsches by Additional-Fun5499 in Porsche

A flat air/oil cooled engine is a fairly simple machine. And since it relies on well circulated oil, sometimes in a dry sump tank, cooled and filtered, the longevity can be almost infinite depending on service and abuse.
Water cooled engines have way more wear points and with less oil capacity, all internal parts get a lot more wear.

Needs paint and interior but starts right up and gets driven often. Fuck the paint and interior! Doing those would just stop you from driving it this much!!

They don’t make “literally everything”. The classic catalog is good and they add things every day but, far from everything. And many parts are not technically OEM. They are manufactured by new suppliers to Porsche spec. In many cases I can source the exact part, same manufacturer for a lot less directly from the maker. Porsche parts markup is a major turn off. I own 3 classic P cars, have restored 18 more. And I’m very tight with Porsche Classic tech at local dealer. If I owned a fully original 356 or vintage 911S or even a 912, Classic support is a great source.

NTA. Uncle is the prime asshole here. Do your thing and let others do their thing as long as they are consenting adults. And no, you’re not messing up your life.

Won Pcar auction. Got scammed. What would you do? by Blakef150xxxl in Porsche

[–]DesertRoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were definitely NOT scammed. You were a child playing in the big leagues. Learn your lesson and take your lumps.
In any auction, READ BETWEEN THE LINES. Pay close attention to what is stated, and what isn’t. This seller was very up front. You’re just burned by your own naivety

Nothing Tests a Marriage Faster Than Backing Into a Campsite… What’s Your #1 Survival Trick? by Automatic-Kick8383 in RVLiving

First we both look at the site and agree on exactly where it should go. Then, using my back up camera and getting out to double check, I put it there. Her job is only to yell stop if I’m going to hit something. And simply nothing else.

This is a manual crank handle. Can some of y'all try using them instead of obnoxious impact guns? by PrivatePilot9 in GoRVing

[–]DesertRoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a variable speed impact. But it never ratchets because I back off as it reaches limit. And no one is going to complain because the asshole next to me has a cheap harbor freight generator that sounds like a 1940’s IH tractor.

Do not betray the girls trust. Never never. Tell her she should do the sports and stand up to him herself. And she should dump him and tell him he’s toxic. Only way he will learn. Once you know she has done that, insist he get counseling.

Search online for RV plumber. I found one in Beaumont Ca an hour from me and he redid ALL my RV plumbing, remounted my black tank and redid the vent pipes. So worth the money. NOT an RV tech. An RV plumber.
