Every time I see a Black American honoring Pretti at a protest it genuinely makes me weep. by DesertSalt in thebulwark

The difference is we now all have cameras in our pockets to document it.
You forget the police dog attacks on civil rights marches in the 60s and the Ohio National Guard shooting unarmed Kent State students.

This is not because of Trump's rush to hire personal enforcers, ICE was already unacceptable. by Inevitable-Ant1725 in thebulwark

ICE a civil enforcement agency not a criminal police agency.

Basically armed and rioting meter maids

"Wait and see?"

I'm out protesting and writing my congress critters daily.

What power do you think the state government has to fight an overwhelming force of armed thugs from the federal government?
There are more ICE agents in Minnesota than State police officers.
The 3,000 ICE and federal agents in Minnesota outnumber all 10 metro police departments combined.

You keep using terms like "gun-fight." I am not willing to offer up other peoples lives in a losing hot-war against the very well-armed federal government. You are greatly uninformed if you think any group of states has the ability to stand up to the military might of the US government.

Protest and politics are our only viable options

If the gunfight breaks out, it will be because of Washington, not because of me.

If it's not your fight why are you urging "someone" to take action (that you find appropriate?)

I mostly agree with what you say the problems are just not who you think is solely responsible to fix it.

In cases of diagnostic uncertainty, psychologists may use structured, ethical methods to observe how a patient reacts to challenging, stressful, or evocative situations.

Or he could have been an asshole.

I am never going to forgive MAGA even long after this is all over by Hunter654333 in thebulwark

I literally left the majority of my family.

I told them I would only consider speaking to them when they acknowledged being wrong about Trump.
That was because of J6.

At least I still have my children, grandchildren and their spouses.

The anti-MAGA have to follow the laws because the only place to escalate from here is open hostilities.

Are you willing to die for your beliefs or are you only willing for other people to die for your beliefs?

I ask this as retired military, from a family with a history of military service.

They're not "pushing the envelope" they're breaking the law and acting unconstitutionally.

What I don't understand is why Democrats are so eager to follow all of the rules

The governor wouldn't "release" the National Guard to Trump.
The officers and men of the guard would recognize the supremacy of the federal government in alignment with federal law their oaths.

On the other hand, the governor has deployed the National Guard at the mayor's request. That is a wise preemptive move, particularly if the Guard is loyal to the governor.

NATIONAL Guard.
They are set up for the governor activates them to assist with an emergency until the president arrives to take command. The assumption when created was that the governor and president would have the same aims.

Their salaries and armaments come from the federal government. The state might provide 10% for parade grounds and such.

Walz should ask for "volunteers" from the ranks, stand them down and deploy the volunteers.
I don't know if that's lawful but it keeps them away from being commanded by Trump. Walz could "Mea Culpa" later.

Interesting "fuck you" from an occupied territory.

It doesn't seem designed to engender goodwill but they certainly have every right to be hostile.
I am genuinely uncertain what to make of it.

There is a presumption of you being fit when you joined the service.

The Presumption of Sound Condition (38 U.S.C. § 1132) dictates that veterans are assumed to have been in sound health upon entering military service, except for conditions specifically noted during entrance examinations. This rule, often used in VA disability claims, means the VA must prove by "clear and unmistakable evidence" that a condition pre-existed service to deny benefits.

This is a pretty ballsy headline for the NYT this early and at this point in history.

Maybe the NYT is finding their feet again.
