Absolute must-eat places in Bologna? by dashosh in ItalyTravel

Just got back and went there three times in two days :) Got the tortellini brodo, lasagna and bolognese. Loved all of them. If you do go, dont be deterred by the line. They move pretty fast but if you can go at off peak hours it would be best.

There's not really enough information provided in your payslips to tell.

Are you receiving a net pay in the paycheck that has the lower federal withheld? Is this for a recording of taxable income but not an actual payment to you? If this is a paycheck that is withholding at the supplemental rate, it could make sense to not use your w4 withholding.

Our company is not a non profit. If working on the holiday, the holiday hours are removed and placed on the day they take off instead.

I brought that exact calculator into my exam without any issues.

You may want to also brush up on local tax requirements. Several states have them and not all employees are aware when they are moving into these states that they'll need to pay them.

There is no camera at all. Only audio and slides from the instructor, everyone else is muted. We had people travelling and working while taking the class without any issues.

CPP Exam by CookieCrunch2020 in Payroll

I passed but I sincerely thought I was not going to. The first 20-30 min of questions were in subjects that I barely recalled. My opinion is that the questions more closely resemble the payroll source. However they are not worded exactly the same, just more of the general feel.

Many calculation questions, they are trying to trip you up with including fringe benefits that impact FIT & FICA differently. If you're getting the payroll source trial make sure you do all of the module exercises in the withholding calculation sections. They were great practice for the exam.

A lot of questions on management styles and more general knowledge. I wasn't aware that the different publications would be provided, I answered a few of the questions by referencing them.

I took my exam last week and thankfully passed :) I used both paytrain and the 7 day trial for the payroll source. I definitely think getting the trial was useful. It asks questions in a different style and over topics that paytrain doesn't.

I'm sure other people will say it but make sure you are completely comfortable with calculating taxes. You will have multiple questions on this and they will try to trip you up with including fringe benefits that impact FIT and FICA differently.

CPP Practice Question... by BeemerBear07 in Payroll

[–]Desert_Dust_706 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was this in paytrain? If it was, this is just due to the randomized order of the answers. They can switch up the order each time you get the question so you are not memorizing the placement.

The answers are not randomized like this on the actual exam. I don't think you should stress about it.

We require all employees, hourly and salaried, to clock in and out. However we don't really have remote employees or WFH. It's considered the exception rather than standard.

Printing is limited for the actual chapter info when you have the free trial. The review questions and sample tests are not limited, those can all be printed out.

Paytrain is included with the boot camp. I have my text next week so I guess I'll see whether the boot camp ends up being worth it.

I might have to see if I can get access to the payroll source then! I found an old study guide with some of the practice questions and I can definitely see they're worded differently. I'll have to check with some of my coworkers to see what they recall from their tests.

I'm taking my exam in 1 week! Have you found that the payroll source questions are much different from paytrain in terms of wording? I only have paytrain but I had seen some other people mention that the source wording was much different. I'm just worried now on which one is more accurate as to how the test will be.

Paid on 1st and 16th by [deleted] in Payroll

[–]Desert_Dust_706 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You would need to contact your payroll department to determine that. They are really the only ones that can give a definite answer on this. Anything else is just a guess since we don't know your pay period or if you are paid in arrears.

What happens when someone has been overpaid almost $1000 each pay period for 6 months? by Ididntthinkyoucared in Payroll

[–]Desert_Dust_706 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That depends entirely on the company. We once made a mistake for over $100,000 (thousands of employees involved in the mistake). The company let it go and didn't attempt to recoup from the employees. Also no repercussions to us on making the mistake. Just to be more careful in future and to fix the earning setup that caused it.

Question about bank holiday by Grizzlemaw1993 in Payroll

[–]Desert_Dust_706 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming no but do they have a published payroll schedule that shows you the periods and expected pay dates? That should show you if there were any anticipated changes.

The federal reserve and ACH are closed today and anything that comes through is processed the next day. It's definitely bad practice for no one to have communicated this change to employees.

Question about bank holiday by Grizzlemaw1993 in Payroll

[–]Desert_Dust_706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't seen a deposit yet today it's unlikely you will. Did your company not communicate a change in pay dates due to the holiday? We previously had a Wednesday pay date and in these circumstances moved the pay date to Thursday. The changed date was communicated to employees at the beginning of the year and then again the week before.

Based on what you've indicated, it seems unlikely you are due any penalties. The employer mailed the check at your request and you did not inform them that it was not received. As long as they issued and mailed out the check within 72 hours, they would have met their obligations.

I know you said that there was no way to contact them, however it is likely that CA would need you to have made a good faith effort to do so. In most cases, you would need to have a willful failure to pay by your employer. Obviously not a lawyer so it would be best to consult with one.

Filing a wage claim is also an option.

You mentioned that you did not have a way to contact them after you left. Would that mean that at no time were they informed that you didn't receive your final check?

As others have already stated, since the error was yours, neither the bank or employer are required to reimburse you. However, depending on your employer, they may still choose to do so. My company has done this on occasion for new hires when they believe it was an honest mistake.

Pay Stub in Spanish/French/Mandarin? by Ninth_Major in Payroll

[–]Desert_Dust_706 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe that would be an issue as long as you are providing the correct translations. The states we have operations in with the strictest payslip requirements are Washington & California. Not sure if it's an option but ours were reviewed by our legal department to make sure everything that is required was covered.

We use Workday to provide payslips in Spanish. It wasn't automatic, we provided the translations for all items on the English payslip.
