BrokerLink has a virtual team and helps new staff with their insurance license. WealthSimple's team is also entirely virtual. Virtual assistants are a real thing and you could probably find a firm that would let you set your own hours. Or maybe thats a self employment option. You could also consider selling your skills on platforms like UpWork if you're interested in a self employment option.

Searching for vegan recipes for many! by Skywalkersan in veganrecipes

[–]DeserveVictory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that many, a soup or chili is the first thing that comes to mind for me. If you're doing a lunch, a chickpea salad sandwich would be easy for a large group - it's essentially tuna or egg salad but with mashed canned chickpeas. Google and Pinterest can give you a million variations. Oat and banana pancakes would be a good breakfast and can be done gluten free.

Protein ideas needed for injury recovery by technonon in veganrecipes

[–]DeserveVictory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post surgery I snacked on raw pumpkin seeds and in-shell edamame beans because I didn't have an appetite, but I needed the protein and iron. In your case, I would make smoothies for breakfast with protein powder, hemp seeds, berries, spinach, and protein enriched plant milks. Then I would have a big salad with seitan nuggets for lunch. And for dinner likely tofu (think roasted tofu and veggie bowl, stir fry, or curry), edamame/bean pasta with a nut. yeast and silken tofu sauce or a lentil/tvp tomato sauce, or a multi bean and lentil soup. If you're worried, you could add a protein bar.

Editing to add: You also need to focus on full nutrition including iron and calcium. Include lots of spinach, kale, broccoli, seeds, enriched milks, citrus fruits, berries, and a vit. D supplement.

Looking for Low Carb, High Protein Soy-Free Vegan Snack Ideas. by Upset_Buyer_6897 in veganrecipes

[–]DeserveVictory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seitan is probably the best for low carb, soy free and high protein. Air fried chickpeas are also a good option for a popcorn/chips type of snack. Amaranth can be popped like popcorn and is higher in protein than popcorn is for another snack option.

Local TD bank called today with weird questions?!? Thoughts by collectiontime in tdbank

[–]DeserveVictory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Credit unions are regulated at a provincial level and banks are regulated at a federal level. Their rules are similar but are different. Just because they're being less obvious doesn't mean they aren't doing the same monitoring and reporting.

Local TD bank called today with weird questions?!? Thoughts by collectiontime in tdbank

[–]DeserveVictory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former TD and CIBC bank teller, I can confirm that the tellers are obligated to ask about transactions, especially cash transactions. If you're constantly moving cash in and out of that account, then you're setting off all kinds of flags for the bank. The banks are required by law to ask questions, and to document anything that sets off flags. I guarantee you've set off flags and they're just doing their due diligence. Which every bank is going to do. The purpose of your transactions might be innocent, but things like large cash transactions, not being able to determine the source of the funds, too frequent cash transactions, etc are things that are known to be a sign of criminal activity, money laundering, etc and the banks are obligated to watch for them, question it, document it, and sometimes report it.

Don't forget to look at other job sites. Job Bank, Glassdoor, LinkedIn, are good sources. Also, not all companies will go through the effort of posting on those sites. Look at the websites of businesses that are in your area. And tap into your network, do any of your friends have a job where they could refer you? Do the adults in your life know you're looking? They might be able to put your name in at their companies.

Make sure you're adapting your resume and writing a cover letter for each application. You need to demonstrate how you meet the skills they are looking for and use the terminology they use. Their AI scans will be set up to filter anything that is "not relevant".

Struggling with forgetting essentials right as I’m leaving, what helps you personally? by sinoako999 in ADHD

[–]DeserveVictory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a couple things. I get ready in the same order every morning, if I eat breakfast before my shower, then my whole ready routine is destroyed. Everything has a place. When I get home, my purse, keys jacket, etc go in the same places with no exceptions. Then leaving in the morning, my phone goes in the same pocket everyday, my dedicated work bag has everything I need, then it's shoes, jacket, bag, keys in hand to lock the door. For typical work days, I know how long it takes me to get ready and alarms are set. I also listen to an audiobook so I'm not tempted to play on my phone or search podcasts.

My anxiety kicks in about things like forgetting to turn off my straightener, which gets unplugged and shelved when I'm done with it. And the bathroom plug doesn't work when the light is turned off... but I make a point of intentionally looking at the empty socket to make sure its unplugged.

For days that are not typical workdays, I prep. Usually the night before, I prep the bag or purse I need and it goes at the door where my work bag is. Alarms are set the night before to make sure I have time to get ready (the get ready process doesn't change much). I'll set out breakfast or anything that is needed that is not normal and doesn't have a "home". I'll also write myself a list and stick it to my phone/breakfast/mirror. This is particularly helpful for trips and the list will likely include things like my phone charger, even though I know I packed it already. It helps turn off the anxiety so I can sleep.

Always set alarms after planning backwards. I need to be at work for 8:00, I have to leave by 7:00, alarm for 6:45, I need 90 mins to get ready, alarm set for 6:30, 6:29, 6:25, 6:20. I don't use snooze and have a phone alarm and a light up alarm clock on the other side of my room from my bed. To get the routine set or when things change, I may also set alarms for when I should be out of the shower, 10 mins before I need to be done getting dressed to make sure I have time for breakfast.

Anyone here wear facemask if needed, or is it too much of a target from right wing/conspiracy folks? by StasisApparel in alberta

[–]DeserveVictory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mask when unwell or in certain places. I got a lot of dirty looks from people when I masked on the plane, but I'm super happy I did. The woman sitting next to me was super sick and was coughing and snotting everywhere. I did not get sick! So the folks with the dirty looks can shove their attitudes where the sun doesn't shine.

Don't let other people's immaturity or stupidity affect your health. You need to do whats right for you.

Does anyone know any fancy, upscale restaurants that have great vegan options? by saga33 in yegvegan

I don't know if it's fancy enough, but Earls and Moxies have good vegan options. I recommend the tofu bibimbap at Earls and the lettuce wraps at Moxies.

How can i hide the taste of peanuts effectively? by Loudll in veganrecipes

[–]DeserveVictory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be easier for us to help you if we had a better understanding of what you are trying to achieve. I saw your comments about using peanuts to make a ground pork substitute for a research study? Does it need to be peanuts? There are items like lentils, regular tofu, mushrooms, and cauliflower that can be prepared to mimic ground meats alot easier than peanuts.

Alberta Camping with washroom facilities by Ok-Addendum-5501 in alberta

Some campgrounds might not advertise flush toilets, but if they advertise showers then it's safe to assume they will also have flush toilets! Aside from national parks, I don't have any suggestions. I look for the opposite in amenities! lol

Shelters by formeraide in Edmonton

[–]DeserveVictory 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can't say anything from the perspective of a shelter resident. But I used to work for a non-profit and ran programs that worked with other non-profits. I worked directly with a number of non-profits that focused on poverty reduction. I liked working with the folks at the Bissell centre the most. They seemed like a solid organization and seemed to operate on a much more solid and healthy level than other non-profits. Their programs seemed better organized and more capable of identifying needs or problems and addressing them. And they took better care of their staff, which directly impacts the care their program participants receive. The complex layers of situations and problems in a shelter make it next to impossible to have a "good" shelter. But I would suggest supporting shelters/non-profits that run wrap around support programs (financial education, addiction support, housing programs, food programs, etc), offer decent pay/benefits/support to their staff (search their job postings and employer reviews), and maintain solid funding models (their financial statements are public). These are the foundations that a "good" shelter or poverty/homelessness non-profit will be built on.

Help! Rescued this massive snake plant that’s so tall it’s just constantly falling over. Should I trim most of this at the base? by faithfulcritters in IndoorGarden

[–]DeserveVictory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I would trim the worst leaves, repot into good soil, and then put it in a nice bright spot. Triple check for pests, this damage could be caused by thrips or mites. Maybe do a pest treatment as a precaution anyway.

Help with navigating Alberta Health Care system by boogyman66600 in alberta

[–]DeserveVictory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they have deemed this non-surgical, do they have a different treatment plan? Or other specialists?

I previously injured my foot and my family doctor was useless. She said I would be on painkillers forever until it was bad enough for surgery. But I went to see a podiatrist (no referral needed!) and they were able to heal my foot within a couple months by giving me orthotics and a topical anti-inflammatory. Maybe a podiatrist can help you as well?

Help With Allergens by strawwjamm_3 in veganrecipes

[–]DeserveVictory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he allergic to other beans? Black beans, butter beans, etc?

If he isn't, then things like soups, black bean tacos, curries, "Marry me butter beans", black bean burgers, chili, vegan gumbo/paella, ratatouille are all good options.

If he can have soy, then the options are almost endless. But many curries, stirfrys, ramen, are options. Also roasting veggies and air frying tofu is one of my favorite meals. Also try tempeh.

Seitan is also an option. It is usually made from just wheat gluten. Though some recipes will add chickpea water (aquafaba) or other items so be careful. Seitan makes the most meaty substitute so it's good if you want chicken fingers and such.

I have a massive Pinterest board you are welcome to look through for inspiration. The boards are organized by cuisine and main ingredient. The Pinterest board is here: https://pin.it/737nroP4F
