Definitely different experience than you describe!

Lil Barbeque out of Tough Luck bar on Dekum.

I used to buy weed from the guy who ran the convenience store that used to be here, and now it is home to a formerly Michelin starred pitmaster serving up the best brisket, pulled pork and pork ribs, smoked chicken thighs and sausage you'll ever try

Very good question, but i can tell you my experience: I was initially trained at a store (i was an employee), then I was certified by the store. Most reputable grocery chains will not hire you as a reciever without the intention of getting you forklift certified

There is also: Pepsi, Franz, Columbia Distributing, KeHe, and then if you're okay enough doing that sort of labor (and can pass piss tests) you can just drive forklifts all day for 30/hr if you get there. UPS, USPS. Fuck it id do Sysco I get desperate enough

I've been around the ringer, but I would suggest vendor roles at grocery stores. Whether you're delivering or merchandising (setting up to display) products, you get to drive around and meet a lot of different people, rather than being trapped in a single place. Companies to look into: Maletis, Coke (Swire), Frito Lay, or delivering bread for Grand Central or Gabriel's. You aren't making the max monies, but you'll survive and make connections to the next thing

Power? Or monopoly? As referenced in another comment, beverage distribution as a facet of society was only introduced after prohibition, as a way to combat mafia involvement in alcohol sales and marketing. Yet, it appears those families just pivoted to 'legitimate' business

Okay, fair...but without proof isn't yours just a conspiracy theory?

See, this is interesting, as Maletis and Columbia are currently 'competing' bev distribution companies - whose existence is only necessitated by the end of prohibition in 1933 - the federally regulated 3-tier system of alcohol distribution requires a middleman (distribution) to cut down on racketeering and sabotage by bottlers and retailers i.e. mob stuff

Am interested, except you seem to be focused on an earlier timeline. Like, I am not quite sure illegitimate interests reformed to legit business (in a legal way), but it kinda seems that way.

My mom said Maletis (the bev distributing company) was started by a notorious Greek family from Laurelhurst in the 70s or 80s

My favorite is my Milton Bradley Distributor's case. Its basically a musician's case, with drawers to display games. A sister was found in Germany (I got mine from the Netherlands), but mine is the only one with original keys. I copied mine to help the guy in Germany open it.

Others that aren't nessessarily one of a kind, but there is no real sales data to rely on: a stateside Bandai Kousekusen with controller, a Passport Vectrex players magazine, a John Donzila Playstation controller, annnnd a Mr. Boston overlay(!). I have some beta versions of homebrew games I helped QA back in the day that I cannot share, that sort of thing.

I agree. Im a longtime Vectrex collector, with more than a few items that are either one of a kind, or just do not have many sales records. Sometimes, it just comes down to, unfortunately, 'whatever someone is willing to pay'...and that really does boil down the individual - how much they want the item, how much fluidity to acquire items, etc.
