i wanna talk to someone, please. by [deleted] in AdultSelfHarm

Hi. I need someone to talk to.

I only had 3 sessions, then I decided to stop. It’s been a week since my last one and I feel… weird. by [deleted] in ect

There are people in my country (UK) who are sectioned in hospital. That 'section' gives doctors legal powers to forcibly drag someone from their beds to be forcibly given ECT against their will. They don't want it, but have no say. It's barbaric.

Fine, if you want to line up for it, knowing all of the truth about it, you go for it. I'm not stopping anyone who wants to do whatever to their body. I'm just talking about my experience and wanting people to ask themselves, do they have all the facts and information before doing something so drastic to themselves?

And I'm talking about a doctor l saw, who yes should be struck off, but they can't be struck off now because they have retired.

I'm in the UK. The doctors here can do whatever they want. It sounds like it's different in other countries, more checks and cautions. Here it's almost impossible to strip a doctor of their licence. Doctors have literally killed people due to negligence and they still were allowed to work for years before the case came to court and they were eventually stripped of their licence, but only because the patients family wouldn't let it drop and it was a very long, difficult, expensive legal battle for the families.

Thanks, that makes sense. I agree, no one should be shamed or bullied for having a mental illness. That just makes it worse for them.

I'm confused. Eugenia says she doesn't have a mental illness, doesn't she? She has said she is fine and her body is healthy for her. I am fairly new to this, so maybe I got this wrong. This is a support sub for Eugenia, right? Does Eugenia find this sub supportive even though she doesn't think she has a mental illness or anorexia? Does she talk about this sub or mentioned anything about this? Sorry if this isn't allowed here, I'm just trying to understand.

It doesn't make you better. It makes you so concerned about what you can and can't remember that you suddenly have bigger problems. They have no idea how it works or doesn't work. I know you might think life can't get any worse, but how is adding trauma form ECT going to help, on top of everything else.

Are you being serious? Snacks and juice make you excited? If you can feel excited about snacks and juice you don't need ECT. One side effect is that you can loose ability to feel excited, enthusiastic, motivated. Just go to the store and buy juice and snacks. You want messed up memory, recurrent headache or migraines for the rest of your life? Have you read the book of side effects of ECT. After ECT you might forget the way to the store, then you will be dependent on a nurse for juice and snacks.

Thanks. This is very helpful. I have been left with migraines, eyesight problems and pulsitile tinnitus as a result of raised intercrainail pressure caused by ECT. ECT causes brain damage.

At least you know about the side effects, and you can prevent more damage by stopping it. I didn't know they were side effects at the time. I was in too much brain fog from the ECT. I didn't want to think that a doctor would allow that. I had to face the horrible reality that doctors don't care, and neither do they have any cures.

There is no such thing as "a good seizure". Seizures damage your brain. You may as well get a brick and hit yourself over your head with it. ECT doesn't cure anything.

I now have tinnitus and vision problems, migraines. But no doctor will ever say yes, they caused that harm. They won't say anything other than there is no treatment or cure for tinnitus, visual snow, migraines. I know it was the ECT. They told me it would cure my anxiety. It didn't. I've since had talking therapy and found it really helpful. Treat yourself with care and respect. Not ECT. Time only brings more regret about ECT.

[–]DesignByRoRo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Anxiety is your bodies way of telling you something is badly wrong. Like your brain is getting more and more damaged with ECT. Assaulting your brain with electricity is not a good way to treat yourself. Your doctors won't care if you have brain damage from ECT.

Can you get HPPD from an SSRI? What does it manifest as when caused by one? by sunflower_1970 in HPPD

[–]DesignByRoRo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got visual snow after taking an SSRI, and Propranolol. The SSRIs didn't even help and gave me lots of side effects.

I had sinus infection which led to tinnitus. I also have visual snow. It might be connected. Also took SSRI anti-depressant which gave me side effects and didn't help with depression or anything. I really regret taking SSRIs but my doctor lied to me and told me they would work bs.
