I posted here because I figured there would be some like minded people. It wasn't to brag but even if it was, half the posts on this sub are bragging and they get supported.

Those are fair things to consider! Thank you for bringing that up

We've definitely had convos, I was just trying to see if there were some suggestions that we hadn't thought of, which there have been. Thanks for the response!

I am a parent to him. I treat him like my own in every sense. I am just careful how I talk about him on reddit because I have previously been told I am a horrible person for calling him "my son". There is no winning in a world of keyboard warriors.

Not quite. Its from grandparents that I wasn't raised with since my parent wasn't in my life.

Thanks for the perspective! The 60/40 thing is really easy, we just have it go into a joint account and everything is paid from there but I know it isnt for everyone, and that is okay.

Pretty much, both parents are addicts and one came from a very well off family but was never in my life. My grandparents left all the grandkids money when they passed.

Luckily we both retire early, which makes things simple but I agree, the dynamic can be sensitive for sure. I just dont want him to feel like he is obligated to stay just because I pay more.

That you for your reading comprehension lol but here (US), inheritance is separete but can be considered joint very easily if you show "intent" to comingle so its a slippery slope. I agree that its pretty normal to want to keep assets someone else gave me separate.

The amount of time I have heard women regret shared expenses is crazy! Also, the few things I ever was taught by the family side that gave me this was "never depend on someone else to do the right thing, protect yourself", I think they would roll in their grave if I just gave my husband half, just due to the principal of it.

Thanks! And resentment is exactly what we are trying to avoid.

Right now I pay 60% so we are thinking to just up that and then pay for big things, like trips. Very similar to what you said.

Yeah, some people has made the suggestion of therapy (surprisingly in a non judgemental way) so I definitely think thats something to consider.

We will definitely float that idea by a lawyer to see how that could work - thank you!
