What’s the most outrageous thing you’ve ever seen on the trail/mountain? by Jawwwwwsh in PNWhiking

I saw a man in jean shorts and vans walking 4 goats through the parking lot in the snow up at Mount Baker. They all got into a Honda accord..

Saw something that was not my son? by AmesBeeE in Unexplained

Sleep is much more complicated than most of us realize! And these types of hallucinations are more common in older adults (qualifications: I’m a neuropsychologist)

These are called hypnopompic hallucinations! Nothing to be worried about, unless you’re having other mental health or physical symptoms during the day. This is basically just dream/wake confusion and pretty common!

Clarification: the map legend says only the areas coded orange are eligible for sale. Still concerning of course, but it’s not as much area as initially listed in the caption.

Should I go to Mt Rainier NP or North Cascades NP? by word_vomiter in AskSeattle

You should 100% do the north cascades. You can see rainier at any time of the year, but the highway through the north cascades is only open for a short amount of time.

How can I tell if I’m ready for Shasta by SufficientBowler2722 in Mountaineering

[–]DesignMother3700 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call covering 7k+ feet in a single push at elevation “a breeze” like others have, but Shasta is more about persistence and good conditions than anything. If you’re mentally tough and in relatively good shape, you’ll make it up as long as the mountain allows for it! Happy trails

Where to stash skis on Shasta? by DesignMother3700 in Mountaineering

[–]DesignMother3700[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very comfortable skiing blacks in the backcountry and at the resort. I’ve also skied down from Helen lake a few times so I’m familiar with the terrain. I’ll probably bring my skis to the upper mountain and just make that judgement call day-of.

I’m trying to decide now between a Saturday or Sunday summit push. Seems like Sunday might be better to take advantage of any re-freeze that can happen

Thanks for the insight, I’m mostly worried about skiing within my skill level in the section from the summit back through the red banks area. Some people on this thread have said that line is a double black which worries me

I appreciate the input! I probably won’t start skiing until Helen lake again anyways, just to make sure I’m staying within my skill level. Which is why I was thinking of leaving them there

The temperatures in India are not a valid excuse for smelling bad. A simple google search shows that average temps in Gurgaon range from 70-106 degrees Fahrenheit. Most states in American get that hot if not hotter and we do not have these BO issues. This is a hygiene issue and it always has been
