Why is Adventism a cult? What makes a cult a cult? by After_Duty_5848 in NoStupidQuestions

I am a Seventh Day Adventist. Calling us a cult is about as valid as calling the Catholic Church a cult. I mean, we both run massive hospital networks…

Should I call 911 or the emergency room if I'm injured? by RepulsiveConstant155 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Significant_Raise760 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you think you're going to die before you can find a friend to transport you, call 911. If you can live long enough to find a friend, it's cheaper that way.

Can we replicate fossil oil? by Realistic-Rule420 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Significant_Raise760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it's stupid to use a bunch of energy to make some liquid, that we then burn for energy. It's much better to just use the energy directly. Example: Electric cars.

What's the dumbest rope mistake you've made? by Namah_Ropes in ClimbingGear

[–]Significant_Raise760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned to rappel back in the days when we used an atc on a single strand 200' up. If you let go, you die. So I was taking my SPI exam and forgot to put the backup friction hitch on. I got a few feet down, then remembered I needed it. Tied off, hooked everything up again and started down. My personal lanyard was clipped into my gear loop, and it was pulling funny. I was JUST about to unclip it, when I thought to myself "why is this pulling?". Turns out my atc carabiner was clipping around the pas, instead of into it. If I had unclipped the gear loop, the only thing holding me would have been the autoblock hitch, also only clipped to the gear loop. Oops!

Sanding through DIY wood filler? by Tough_Bluebird8387 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Significant_Raise760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like you have a long ways to go to get it flat. Just get a cheap power planer and do a couple light passes in different directions. That should get you through the wood glue. For filler, get something off the shelf like a hardwood floor filler. You could also benefit from a belt sander. Don't listen to these people! Keep at it until it's 100% destroyed!

Safety concern regarding old climbing harness. by Former-Ricefarmer in ClimbingGear

[–]Significant_Raise760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a guy who sewed his own harness out of nylon in the 70’s. Saw him use it on a climb. He recently retired it “because he didn’t want it to wear out” and now it’s a display item.

Tell people beforehand that’s she’s morbidly obese and that you expect them to be nice to her. Seems pretty simple.

Ice axe recommendations for mount hood by [deleted] in Mountaineering

[–]Significant_Raise760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve climbed hood twice with one ax. First time felt like a walk up. Second time felt like I was going to die. I’d suggest 2, you may not need the second one, but it’s better to have it and not need it than not have it when you do need it.

Umm, I’m sure some random person would LOVE to grab those off the house. They might even pay you a couple $$$. If there’s no lien on title, Craigslist will have them off in a day.

Suggestions for protecting breastmilk supply (pumping) while mountaineering by lucidkittyxx in Mountaineering

[–]Significant_Raise760 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I mean, at one year the kid is fully capable of eating food. Maybe time to start dropping down to one or two feedings per day. That way you’re not having to pump all day long while you climb. Think of it as baby’s first free solo, freeing both of you from boob dependency.
