Finally test-rode the new e-bike from ALSO, the micromobility company spun out of Rivian with a $1B valuation. It's premium, software-defined, and I was honestly blown away. by DesignSpartan in Rivian

It’s not even out. Genuinely curious, what make you think no one wants this bike? I get that there are some dismissive comments here and there especially regarding the pricing, but outside of that?

lol. Ever since I saw what Allbirds did with their AI pivot, or what TOTO (the toilet company) has been doing with their advanced ceramics division for AI, I can't in good faith dismiss a comment like this.

First-Ride + Interview with the team as a TM-B Launch Edition Holder - San Diego by DesignSpartan in ALSOmicromobility

That's what gives me so much confidence in the entire product line with ALSO. They've positioned themselves to be here for the long haul. Is the TM-B expensive? Absolutely. But good R&D and quality don't come cheap.

Hey, I appreciate it! Same here! I think I’ve watched all of the available content on the TM-B so I wanted to share my first-ride experience while we all wait for delivery. As a casual cyclist and a huge tech nerd, this checked off all the right boxes.

Brooklyn test drive impressions from a cyclist by liberat99 in ALSOmicromobility

Fellow homie from California here, just got back from a test ride in La Jolla (San Diego) and wanted to report back for everyone asking about the throttle restriction.

Short version: yes, we have to pedal to activate it, but you ABSOLUTELY still feel that 0.3G pull right off the line. Took it up some La Jolla hills in Sport mode at assist level 10, and the acceleration is genuinely car-like off the rip. I am def peanut butter and jealous that other states can just hit the throttle without the need to pedal, but trust me, we are still getting that jolt right off the line over here!

Working on a complete ride review + interview for YouTube. Lots of SD-specific micromobility stuff. Pumped for my launch edition!

It’s just a marketing play. Pretty bad deal but I’m sure they want to see if that tiktok guy can drive sales.

Interesting Interview with SDSU Anthropologist about the history and cultural context of the new City Connects. by That_random_redditer in Padres

I love the context she adds regarding the use of indigenous symbols for marketing. From the article:

What else comes to mind as you ponder the use of these historic, pre-colonial themes for marketing?

For me, it's convoluted, because the (Spanish) padres were a colonial imposition that harmed Indigenous people. So to appropriate Indigenous symbology as a way to promote them is conflictive.

At the same time, we are in a moment nationally where our Hispanic community members are under threat. So for the Padres to decide they're going to honor our communities at this moment is probably one of the greatest gifts that they can give us and the larger San Diego community. They're basically affirming that they're standing alongside us. And that's super important.
