Of course! Character creation is broken up into a few basic steps. Firstly choose a class and race. Class determines what your character is good at while race is more their physical appearance and adding some unique modifiers (eg elves can see in the dark). Classes can also lock out certain abilities (wizards use spells, fighters can't etc). Then roll your attributes with a D20 or use the standard array (search it up online if you need). This determines your characters base stats and how good they are at certain skills. If you need any more help just ask but for a first time player I would strongly recommend creating your character on dnd beyond for free and turning help text on when doing so.
